I have always kept a low and objective speech concerning historical, political and international relations issues. But now I cannot hide or control my anger, as well as my justified problematism about these facts:
1. The Turkish press releases ironic articles about Greece not having accepted the Turkish aid for the recent forest fires.
Though, Greece accepted it when offered.
2. The Turkish press denounces Greece for turning an old mosque to a church in Rodos. A (Turkish) friend of mine, eminent member of the Turkish community of Rodos informs me that no such event took place, on the contrary the mosque in question and other Ottoman monuments are being restored with European Union funds.
3. The Turkish press publishes a foto of skulls and bones, placed 150 years ago in an old showcase at the ruined monastery of Nea Moni - Chios, with the comment that the mayor of Cesme asked the Mayor of Chios to remove the scipt "Victims of Turks".
Are all these a coincidence?

Hopplite, the mayor of Cesme, instead of digging out an issue 150 years old, he should ask his fellow mayor to start an essential restauration of the Monastery which is world heredity and lies almost in ruins.

Dear Ayran: We have shrines at Kalavrita, Kaissariani and Distomo for those killed by the Germans, but neither the Germans complained, nor do we hate Germans for what happened 60 years ago...
As for showcases with skulls nad bones, read about monasterial burial customs... Not only the Greek but the Catholic ones too...

Leonarda, it's exactly the Murat Reis Mosque that was supposed to be "turned to a church" and the person who gave this information to the Turkish press was the consul ot Turkey in Rodos. I think he deserves a sue...

Dear ZigZag, I'm not talking about things that belong to the past, I was clear about this.
I'm talking about present facts, that can be crossexamined and verified or not.
We live in the era of communication and information.
Murat Reis Mosque is at the turistic center of Rodos, it is being looked after as a monument, and some immoral person gives the information I mentioned to the turkish press.
Shouldn't the press verify the truth of this "information" or not? Send a reporter to check it out?

First it's very boring to hear people who insist that Greece refused help during the problem with fires. The help from Turkey came , Canadair airplanes help us with the fires. We said "thank you" , be sure that we will help you to in the future if you need help (like in 1999 earthquakes), we all are ok that's it ! Why do you still insist people ?
Why do you try to make us look like selfish ?
For mosques, don't forget that 98% of Greece are Orthodox Christians. The most people who are muslims in Greece are in North Greece (Xanthi, Komotini), there are many mosques which are in use by the people. In other parts of Greece , in which all the citizens are Christians it's logical that the mosques are not in use . But all are protected because even if they are not part of our religion , they are part of our history .
Dear "I-run u-run.." , i want to say to you that in general i am a fan of your answers.
I don't have problem with Turkish people , i want and wish the 2 nations to be real friends and this region to be calmer than Scandinavia ! :-)
But we all have to remember our history and not to sacrifice her . History is the most important thing for a nation.
It's better for all of us to remember and try to overcome the bad things than forget in order to make the others feel good and not insulted.
Believe me, the Greek history book stopped not from Church's comments but from the Greek people . Even atheists Greeks were angry with this book , because government tried to make us forget but we never forget .

I take place to be an archaeologist and by this potential waiting to be conscious of the 2d and the third ingredient of yours. In 1987, while an earthquake stroke Rodos, many monuments, between which Bysantine, Ottoman and Knights' ones suffered damages. priority for restauratation replaced into given to the minaret of the Suleyman mosque. on the different hand, no mosque has been grew to become to a church, by using fact the Archaeological branch and the regulation forbit any substitute. In Athens, the bublic turkish baths (hamam) have been scientifically restaured and are used as a cultural midsection. Nea Moni at Chios island is an exceptionally unhappy case. that is mosaics are area of the triptychon Dafni - Osios Loukas - Nea Moni yet are destroyed by using fact of offender negligence. With appreciate to the skulls in the room next to the front, i think of that they could't be a clarification for litigation. the genuine tragedy is the project of the monastery.

It has been also said that we treat bad the turks in Greece...Well. some years ago, i dont think that the greeks of Asia Minor, and Constantionopolis had many rights...You see nowdays that when Vartholomeos goes to do the holy mass, a group of turks(not the whole population of course)went out shouting..Also when in Theofanioa, in one small part of Keratios they throw the cross...
In Greece, there are schools for the turkish nminority in Thraki, and the muslims especially of Rhodes are between the richest(i am talking of the turks-greek citizens). And certainly they live well with the greeks here, i have just returned from a baptise and behind me there were turks who were speaking also loudly their language, and nobody said anything..Because they are incorporated in the society, and live here for many centuries...
But actually what happens is not true...The mosque of Suleyman the great is restored, and the islamic library, the mospque of Murat Reis is also there in the new town of Rhodes, and concerning the turkish community...they have all their religious freedom, and i can assure you that they are not even fanatic ...If they had problems, should have protested?
And yes...What happened in Chios is true, even the island they call it with turkish name...
Maybe those who wrote these things forget how many greeks were forced to leave Constantinopolis in 1955-1960, and the disasters they suffered in their shops and houses...
But i will say again...i dont blame the whole population, there were people who were crying when the greeks were leaving, others who saved them too...
Nothing is coincidence Dellarovere...I just can not think that it is going to be ever friendship between the 2 countries, and i dont think that it is so important..We just want both our peace, that s all...away from each other since we have not anything in common, and both with peace...
The political toipics when they are discussed, make us understand that both countries have so many differences...
Dellarovere, there is the turkish cemetary there, and you know exactly where it is...So many years it is preserved...
Ayran, if our stupid nationalism is in your section, fight for it there...I can not understand why you care so much for our section since the question has been made also in yours..
why so much interest in our questions?

"I run" I cannot understand the reason why you are so agressive. The slaughter of Chios really happened and it was the reaction of the Sultan to the revolt of the island.
I know that your Kemal Atatourk revolted against the Ottoman Empire too. Did he do that because he approved of Ottoman policy?
We often watch at the news your annual ceremonies for the conquest of Constantinolpe (which was renamed to Istambul). Palaiologos, the last Bysantine Emperor was not Rum, as you call Bysantines or Greeks of Asia Minor, but Greek from Mystras (Peloponese). How would you like it if we rise up to demand that this celebration be halted as a demostration of haterade?
And why don't you react alike about Malta, the tourism of which is based on the siteseeings where Turks and Knights slaughtered each other?

I didn't know about all these news in the turkish press, thanx for the information. I will be very interested to read a political analysis for all these. Is there something between those lines that we can't see or it's just journalist attacks in order to shock, move and sell ?

dear dellarovere...a man of your wisdom and knowledge should be aware of the relation between politics and press,,its not freedom of speech ,,and its not the free press world,,everything printed is politically approved before it goes out,,its the magic stick of moses they call it,when they need it the media is the biggest power who can reach everyone and spread the ideaology the politicians want,,believe me when i tell u if they wanted a solid concilation u would have heard the opposite,,but its what happens worldwide,,do u still think intellectual educated people still believe what the media stereotypes,,i dont want to include names, officials.i speak in general and i think u understand what the message was,,great question in a great timing,,no one is naive these days.,u have to know on personal level rival nationalities can prosper,,but on political level its a different story..regarding muslim killing ,,,do u know that the turks killed more muslims than any other power,,and in islam the muslims brother blood is harem,(means forbidden to shed)so imagine what they did and history spoke it,,to others,,jenkes khan and the mongols slaughtered arabs and muslims,,and wanted to extinct their existence, they were called the black death coming form the far east, when they entered bagdad they threw all the books in the tiger river,,the water became black ,it was a black day in history,,and they continued till they reached 50 kilometers on the outskirts of cairo ,,if kotus didnt defeat them ,,the arabs would have been history,,thats the mongols,.,who came back later in new form as muslim othmanians and oppressed arabs for 400 years in four dark black centuries,,history isnt forgotten ,,today ,turkey supports israel over palestinians,,one of teh first nations who recognized the israeali state,,her land is full of usa bases ,stand by attacking iraq ,palestine, and and an eye on iran and syria,,is that an islamic nation of 95%muslims,,its secular,,and it aint faithful to anything ,,like a beast who wants to live only on the blood of whom it oppresses ad humilates,if islam is mentioned by a turk ,,do u remember when even the call for prayer was forbidden to be heard ,,,in turkey,.,,
