Has anyone out there had trouble(or been refused) getting an Australian working visa because they had a criminal record? (spent or unspent).
Would like to hear from those especially who have managed to get around this?

I am working on booking a vacation this summer (July/August) and I know nothing about Melbourne. I found the Explorer's Hotel on Spencer Street in Melbourne and it seems to be nicely priced and supposedly in a good area for travellers. Does anyone have any info? Price and location are very important. The purpose of the trip is to see Phantom at the Princess Theatre. I also plan to do some sightseeing.

i booked to fly xmas day from sydney to sunshine coast ,and they cancelled the flight,no reason given,and said come back for the next service in 4 half hours !!!and return flight was half hour late..thers no joy in travelling dog star,or is it just me...

I hear that Perth is quiet with many beautiful beaches, but does quiet mean desolate? I'm in the USA and will be moving to Austrailia, but not sure where. If anyone out that has been to Charleston, South Carolina, you'll know what I'm used to...but I'm up for a change, just not too much hustle and bustle. However, the area I work in can be metropolitan, I just want to relax at home.

Looking for first hand information on this:

It has just been suggested by a friend that we get away for a couple of months this year and go fruit picking / backpacking.

I know you can do this all year round in OZ and NZ, and that Canada has a long fruit picking season (ending around August); also France, Spain and Italy do this too.

But has anybody actually done this; does it pay; whats the work like?

The way i hear it is you get free accommodation, food, use of the facilities and either a daily rate or paid by the Kg. In return you work shifts in the fields / orchards picking fruit.

If you want to move on you can have the owner call ahead to other locations, and pre arrange work.

Some of the online guides are saying earning rates of £30-£60 per day; can this be right.

Looking for anybody thats actually dont this - Not second hand info.

I would like some suggestions on stops, where to stay, what to see between Melbourne and Port Campbell. I plan to leave Melbourne around 11am on day 1 (a Wednesday) and return to Melbourne airport on day 2 to catch a 1pm flight to Sydney. Overnight somewhere between the Melbourne and Port Campbell. I really want to see the 12 Apostles and take some nice picture at dusk.

I am going to New Zealand South Island for a couple of days during Easter, immediately few days before Good Friday until Easter Monday. I am wondering if there is anything going on in Christchurch during Easter period (Good Friday till Easter Monday) or is it a ghost town during that period?
