Since T-Pop/T-Rock is becoming increasingly popular lately, I want to know if you guys think if there will be a Thai Wave to hit Asia soon like the Korean wave. By the way I think it will, since Thai movies are very popular such as Ong Bak and Tom Yum Goong leading the way. Thai pop culture is being expose cause of this and oh yeah can't forget sites like Youtube and Imeem helping out. :P

We are family of 5, and plan to visit Bangkok in July. Kindly recommend some kids-friendly hotel in Bangkok in close proximity to shopping areas.
Ideal would be per day room rent in range of USD 30 to 50.
Or how about if we go for a two bedrooms serviced apartment ?

Please comment / advise.

In Thailand, you can avoid the heat, don’t get too pissed, stay away from the violent south, but how to keep these darn mozzies from keeping you out of your own garden and waking you up at night? Has anybody gone through the process of comparing products, methods, etc.? I have heard of carbon dioxide combined with an intake fan, and black lights. The cheaper units in the stores don’t look very effective.

My girlfriend and I went to Thailand a few months ago. While we were there, we visited the Long Neck tribe in Chiang Mai. I bought her this beautiful silver bracelet from one of the long necks. Her house was just recently broken into and the bracelet was one of the items that was stolen. This bracelet meant the world to her, so I was hoping I would be able to find her another one that was similar to the one she lost. My question is...does anyone know of any websites that has a wide selection of this type of jewelry...specifically from the long necks in Thailand?

You now, the ones that rocket up and down the canals in Bangkok, using a car engine as the power-plant. Fantastic, aren't they?

When you study Thai history (and a bit of Malaysian history), the Southern Thais were once a 'great' community and a small kingdom by itself.

During the Ayutthaya period, the Pattani Malays allied with the Burmese to betray the Siamese and resulted in defeat (a bad one too).

Presently, we are experiencing the same phenomena within Thailand, where they are fighting amongst themselves too ---in the name of religion, of an independent state, for rights, and for who-knows-what.

The Malaysian education system seldom mention of their historical links and significances of the Pattani 'kingdom' and had mentioned of 'past rulers of Pattani were forced (and refused) to kneel and bow before the King of Siam) therefore, fuming more hatred towards the Thais by Malays for their ancestors had been 'ill-treated' and 'being bullied' by the Siamese.

You might find this interesting:

Sometimes it's nice to get away from the tourists and experience Bangkok life as it really is. Anybody have some recommendations for places not covered in the Lonely Planet and the main tourist itineraries? Any favourite klongs (canals) to get away from it all by boat?

I was one of the lucky ones. Last September I was present at the bombings that occurred in Hat Yai - just got a small schrapnal wound.

Lately, I been hearing that it is escalating and they are targeting kids now and have even killed a few and attacked school dormitorys!

I understand the history of violence in these areas and some of the possible reasons for it (which to save time am choosing not to go into).

I would like to know if it is going to remain escalating to the point of Genocide or a civil war? (which is what I think)

OR

Do you feel that there will be peace sometime soon? (highly unlikely, IMO). Also, your thoughts and insight on this.

I am interested in hearing from Thais who live or have lived in the South or Expats who lived there for awhile.
