if you got only 5 days for Thailand, i recommend you decide on one destination in Thailand you would like to visit. going to Bangkok, pattaya, phuket you will be spending more time traveling then having fun. go to pattaya have fun coming back to Bangkok for a day and then take the train from Hua Lampong station on Rama IV Road to Malaysia.

Only 5 days in Thailand would be good for Bangkok alone or Phuket. I'd recommend you to spend 3 days, 2 nights in bangkok and fly to Phuket and stay there for 2 nights and leave for KL or Singapore. All by low cost airlines, if you take bus or train, you should allow for 2-3 more days for only 2 destinations.

What to see in 5 days- Well, judging from your possible destinations, I suggest you see Soi Cowboy and Patpong in Bangkok, Walking Street in Pattaya, and Patong Beach in Phuket. If, however, you would like to see something other than fat white tourists and Thai bargirls, Ayuttaya is a pretty cool place a few hours north of Bangkok. In Bangkok itself, there is the Emerald Buddha and Grand palace, Wat Arun, and Chinatown. In Pattaya there is nothing but gross fat tourists and rude loud Russians and hateful angry Thais. I have never been to Phuket. Getting to Malaysia is easy. You don't need advance booking. You can catch the train. It takes all day- like 15-20 hours- from Bangkok to the Malaysian border. Then it is another full day to Singapore. Depnding on what class ticket you buy, the price is either amazingly affordable or ridiculously overpriced.

You can't see much in 5 days. Stay in one place instead such as Phuket.to soak up Thailand. Bangkok is too urbanized while Chiangmai has no beaches. Malaysia is Muslim country so attractive if you are of same religion. Take cheap Air Tiger flights to Singapore for long trip back to your country. Both Malaysia and Singapore are optional. Thailand is more memorable.
