OK, the United States Post Office doesn't do sea mail anymore -- no surface mail to Japan. How do you get a box of household goods (say, some Corelle dishes and silverware, and maybe other stuff) from the US to Japan for a reasonable price? Do you have to live in a big city like Chicago or Houston? By reasonable price, I mean less than $100 for a big, heavy box (big being maybe like a box the supermarkets use for fruit, heavy being 40 or 50 pounds).

I am not finding much information at all through search engines -- any links would be very helpful!

best answer will not be given to an automatic online translation!

1. During delivery.
I do not want to be strapped down to any surface.

2. Don't take my baby away.
Unless it needs special care of some sort.

3. I want the baby in my room with me as much as possible, preferably all day.

I've tried to keep it to the basics,
My hubby was supposed to translate this before going to work in Osaka for 5 days, but apparently he was too busy.

thanks in advance for any help!

I asked this Q in languages yesterday, but got no response, so I thought I'd ask it here seeing as got much appreciated help for my other question.

Has anyone met an older person teaching English in Japan? I have heard that some employers can work you really hard. I have a lot of experience teaching art. I would love to go to Japan and teach, but I don't want to stick out as too old. I'm also not that strong.

Any suggestions, experiences? I always choose a best answer.

i'm half japanese.
i hate japan.
i just spent some time there. worthwhile learning experience, but never again. i'm ashamed of my bloodline like i never was before.
and i'm not some narrow minded homemaker who can't step outside my comfort zone, anything but that. i love travelling, have had amazing experiences everywhere but japan.

i like starting big fights, so give me your worst if you're a japanophile or a japanese. (i am actually far more disturbed by japanophiles than actual japanese people.)

by and large, japanese people are extremely uncreative and narrow minded in everyday life situations. i'm not talking about their obvious brilliance and prowess in music, art, their crazy variety shows, just the random stuff you see going on everywhere, i love all of that, of course. but their bureaucratic ways, total inability to think outside the box, mindnumbing coldness, the fact that no one talks to strangers casually (even amongst the japanese themselves) drove me cuckoo.

What's the most embarrassing thing that ever happened to you in Japan? One of mine happened last night (one among many)!

My family and I were at a yakiniku restaurant about 30 minutes from the base and long story short, when it came time to pay the bill we were 60 yen short! And they didn't accept credit cards! My husband went out to the car to look for some change....to no avail. Finally he had to drive back to the base to get more money while I waited there. So embarrassing! We didn't know what else to do.

So now I will always try to keep extra yen in my car just in case. But it made me wonder about other people's embarrassing stories.....care to share yours?
