i'm planning on going to california from virginia - with my jack russell terrier, who is almost one years old. she's small - and she fits nicely and comfortably in the pet carrier that i have for her.

questions/considerations:
- do dogs need sedation or anything like that when going on plane trips? or should i just excercise her vigorously before the plane ride?
- should i feed her at all that day? (it takes about 4 hours and 31 minutes on a plane ride)
- i don't want her on cargo - i want her in the cabin with me, i want her to know i'm with her and i would feel alot better with her near me instead of lonely and scared.
- should i consider a muzzle? she is quite talkative sometimes and likes meeting people.
- do airports have doggy areas? like, if i had a layover somewhere - and she had to go potty or something like that.

please answer! thank you. :)

I will be travelling to Heathrow Int'l Airport in the morning and I have a flight out of Stansted Int'l through RyanAir in the afternoon. I'm only carrying a backpack and a small-ish roller bag suitcase.

The cheaper the better!

I can't seem to find any irresistable deals. My husband and friends do, but I'm not so lucky. Do you have any tips? I USUALLY travel to see family, so I don't usually want a hotel and/nor car, but maybe packages are better? I don't know. I'm flexible though.

I bought a ticket on Malaysian Airlines' website for a trip from Melbourne, Australia to Frankfurt, Germany 6 months from now.
The only available flight I saw on their website would have me staying 17 hours at Kuala Lumpur! Since there were no other options on their site I booked it, but then the same day I saw the exact same airline flight on travelocity.com.au but had a wait time of only 3 hours.
I called the airline and asked them to change the date of one of the flights but they couldn't sell it to me saying that they 'provide different ticket options to different third party sellers' and that most likely I would have to cancel my tickets and incur a larger penalty and then buy the ticket from travelocity.

This is for the same airline going through all the same airports but just with an earlier flight cutting down my transit wait. Can I contest the cancellation fee - what options do I have according to Victorian Law? Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

This will be my first time on an airplane and airport. Never have I been to one, so.... what should I expect from security and how do I know I woun't lose my baggadge? How early should I show up and how long does it take to pass through security? What do I need if I'm traveling here in the states? Do I need a passaport or just a State ID?

If one buys a ticket from Miami to Cleveland, it will probably have a stop in Atlanta. Is it allowable to just board the flight in Atlanta without having started the flight in Miami? Is it legal to do so?

I believe that it is inconsiderate to move your seat back in an airplane without looking behind you first. In my case, I am 6' 1" and can barely sit straight without having to move my knees sideways. Also, when someone throws their seat back all the way, any tray space I had is almost complete gone. It's certainly impossible to do work on my laptop.

I fly twice a week and this happens at least one of those two times.

This isn't about other options (pay extra for more leg room or first class, take a train, amputate my legs, etc.); I think it's just about consideration.

So my real question is -- shouldn't it be common courtesy to look before you recline, or am I asking too much?

Commercial airplane Jets (i.e Boeings, Airbus') fly at altitudes of 30,000-40,000 feet during the course of their flight. I never have understood why it was necessary to do so. Why can't they fly at 4,000 feet or so? Wouldn't it be easier for a pilot to maneuver a more safe landing in the case of an emergency if the airplane was not so high in the air?

I recently flew in from LAX to Minneapolis/St. Paul Intl. airport, and my dad and I had to catch the puddle jumper (the dinky little planes made to travel thirty minute flights) back home. Unfortunately, the flight was cancelled NOT because of the weather, but because one of the runways were closed down. The airline representatives were of no help whatsoever, and so we went to the info desk. We told him our story, and he says, "Well, that's a load of bull-crap". We buy bus tickets to get back. Later on, we find out that the airport had been pulling this crap for the past three days. Many old women and mothers with children had been stranded there in that duration, too. Pretty soon, up to fourteen people ask my dad how the hell they were to get out of the airport. There was this one from Columbia that was supposed to catch a flight to Madison, WI to attend medical school, and he told my dad "You're the nicest American I've met so far" after my dad gave him directions.
