Travel - 1 September 2007

I am going to London August 2008, I need a good place to stay for 3 or 4 days there. Then going to Dover to catch a ship. Need a place there for a night before and a night when I return.
Any suggestions would be a big help.
NOTE: I am of average income. Not rich so Buckingham Palace is out. But not a pauper either...somewhere afordable but nice. Thank you much!

I heard a while ago that someone bought Coney Island and were going to totally redo it. I haven't heard anything about it since -- does anyone know what's going on? Are they definitely going to destroy it in favour of something modern? What's it going to be like if/when it gets modernised? I feel modernisation would totally destroy its charm...
