I was wondering, I have heard about putting rock salt into shot gun shells home defense. I live in an area where I could use this, hopefully not, but being in California, home intruders have more rights than I do. Because I do not want to kill or mane the person, I thought about just inflicting enough pain that they won’t not be able to move until the police showed up. I have tried rock salt and was not impressed. I was wondering if anyone has just for sh*ts and giggles put those yellow sift pellets into a shotgun shell and blasted it? Would it do some pain at about 10-15 yards away? Not trying to kill the person, and I don’t really want to hear about sawed off shotguns or tazers or pepper spray or using a 357 magnum. Anybody else know where I could get rubber bullets? Any ideas or suggestions? If you leave a dumb answer so you can get your kudo points, it will be erased from this column; I don’t want to hear stupid remarks, thanks.

I need to know the following: how far away, how many rounds of ammo would be necessary, type of bear make a difference? 2nd Part: Is it possible to kill a bear with a handgun(size, bullet type)or with a rifle/shotgun(size, bullet type)? 3rd Part: Answs. needed not for hunt but showoffs at work who "know" guns. Is it possible to kill a bear(type, wieght, distance, gun size, bullet size) with handgun,rifle/shotgun? How close/far away for a head shot(realistically)? So tired of "bragging" at work & want to kill subject with logic. Thankyou for your serious answers. Guarddog

At a closer look, you can tell some are better than others. And then some are nice, and if it comes with a reel, then the reel is tiny.

My great great great grandad had a Parker Brothers Shotgun, 12 ga. back in 1900. It's in about 75-85% condition. It is double barrel and the serial # is 71xxx. He was the sheriff of Hamilton County and used this gun as his primary. We know he got it around 1900, so we think that the gun was made from 1890 +. It had one double barrel cast iron barrel, and another Damascus barrel still with it. We had the original case but lost it. It has been shot only about 200 times from what I know of. Can you determine the value of it, and when it was made?

Hi, lately I've tried out a fish attractant, "Fin Essence", which didn't do squat. I cast it out and the oils just disipate from the lure and I'm left with nothing. I even marinated rubber worms in the stuff for atleast a week and didn't even get a single bite. I'm going to try Berkley Powerbait Bass Attractant now. Is there any specific way I'm supposed to be applying this or are these "fish attractants" just a bunch of garbage?

Looking for suggestions for car/tent camping in New Hampshire and Mass - away from the crazy crowds at the shoreline. Must be well-wooded, have flush toilets (showers are nice) and nearby kid-friendly recreation. Separate RV area (or none) preferred.

Just got back from Bear Brook State Park in NH. Too noisy on weekends with numerous loud children (and adults) starting at 6:00 AM. Archery course was great. The lake was okay for fishing, clean & refreshing for swimming/canoes but also crowded. Kid fishing pond was almost stagnant and had no fish.

Looking for alternatives where young children and adults can enjoy the peace and quiet of nature, dining al fresco and sleeping in tents. 10 adults coming from various New England locations limits the range in which to gather, so Mass and Southern New Hampshire are the locations of choice. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I caught a fluke and didn't have time to fillet it so I threw it in the freezer. Now someone said its not safe to eat and it has to be filleted before the meat is frozen. Is this true?

Primarily I am a sheep hunter. I've been using a 257 roberts for a while with great results. This year I realized I see grzzlies up on the ridge tops every year, but they usually are out about 300 yds on the next ridge. Another thing- I dropped my 375 ( for moose ) in a river this spring. So I need to upgrade to one rifle for all three situations. I've pretty well decided on a 300 caliber, just can't decide between the ultra mag and the short mag. Considerations for me are gun cost, ammo cost, ballsitics, weight and recoil, and range of bullet size available.
Once I get past this I have to decide on a make and model and barrel length. I am left handed. Thanks for the time.

I will take my wife camping for her b'day.

I don't think there are any local attractions.

I'll take her hiking, swimming, perhaps make whoopie.

But what else? Roast marshmallows, board games, massage?

Any ideas?

My father in law left my husband his guns. He lived in Alberta, Canada. We have tried shipping them through UPS, but they will not allow us to do that, even though we are sending them to a dealer. Would it help if we broke them down? Would they accept them then, if we are sending separtely? We would really like to get them down here. Any advice would be welcome. Thanks, to those of you who tried to help!!
