The American built clones of the M-14, especially those from Springfield armory usually rate 'good' to 'excellent' in the accuracy, as well as the quality and dependability departments.
The Chi-Com 'monkey-copies', Norinco and others, products of slave labor are almost TOTALLY devoid of quality control, especially of correct head-spacing, are JUNK, particularly in the accuracy & function depts.
I would not even stand NEXT to anyone shooting a Chi-Com junker, much less shoot one myself! I have personally witnessed malfunctions of this slave-labor product including burst chambers and bolts blown completely out of receivers.
Not only is Chi-Com quality complete SH!T, so is ANY guarauntee they issue with their trash!

I own a Polytech M14s and it is a GREAT performer. I had the rifle sent to Smith Enterprise for their full M1a makeover. Just so you know, Polytech is one of TWO companies that makes/made forged receiver M1a's. The problem with some M1a's from China are that the bolts can have soft metal, which throws the headspacing out of spec. To rectify this, Smith refits the rifle with a USGI bolt, heat treats the receiver and cryofreezes it.

My rifle also had a Barnett medium weight stainless steel barrel fitted to it, national match trigger group and sights (globe front sight) as well as a Smith front muzzle brake.

The gun will shoot to 600 yards. It will probably shoot to 1000 yards, although I havent' had the chance to do so yet. M1a's in general are VERY accurate rifles and are even more reliable than they are accurate. In a SHTF scenario, it's one of my "go to" guns. You can't beat the caliber or the reliability.

Now for groups I've shot, with Federal match BTHP 168gr bullets, I've had 5" groups at 400 yards with open sights. At 100 yards, figure it's good for sub MOA. Keep in mind, this is a fully built M1a.

My standard Springfield bush gun was able to shoot 1" 100 yard groups, but wasn't spectacular beyond 200 yards. My SOCOM was a dog, I'd NEVER buy a SOCOM again. The sights were never able to give me enough movement to get the gun on paper, so I bought a scope. Then I found out that the barrel was mounted crooked in the receiver. Sold it and I'll never buy a Springfield again.

I am by no means an expert, But I believe a well built Springfield Armory M1A, sent to a good gunsmith will shoot just under 1 MOA (1 inch at 100 yards) groups. My Springfield Socom 16( M1A with only a 16.25 inch barrel), with 6X scope, shoots about 3-4 inch groups till the cows come home, which they never do on account of all that noise from the shootin'!! Then I run out of ammo and I go home. Anyways....I hoped this helped. Stupid Cows.....

Accurate enough to be used by top competitors in 200 yard to 100 yards high power matches. Its military model is still being used to as a sniper platform as well.

Mind you these are tuned/accurized models not your off the shelf surplus rifle. but even a new m1a from Springfield will shoot 2 to 3 inch groups at 100 yards with out any tuning.

Very accurate if made to American Military specifications.

The same guns are used by American snipers in Iraq because the M16 does not have the stopping power at long distances.

I qualify my answer; the M1A is among the most accurate of rifles if it is from the Springfield Arsenal. Foreign manufacture is suspect at all times as they don't have American standards or quality control.

Mil Spec or top quality commercial are very accurate. Cheap foreign made ones are variable.

It depends on the condition of the weapon and who is shooting it.*
