My great great great grandad had a Parker Brothers Shotgun, 12 ga. back in 1900. It's in about 75-85% condition. It is double barrel and the serial # is 71xxx. He was the sheriff of Hamilton County and used this gun as his primary. We know he got it around 1900, so we think that the gun was made from 1890 +. It had one double barrel cast iron barrel, and another Damascus barrel still with it. We had the original case but lost it. It has been shot only about 200 times from what I know of. Can you determine the value of it, and when it was made?

I will defer to the experts on Parkers, the Parker Gun Collectors Assoc.

To even attempt to put a value on this without quality detailed photos and knowing it's original grade, etc. would be taking the proverbial shot in the dark.

We know g-g-g-grandad wasn't the Tsar of Russia, so it's likely under the $275,000 his was sold for!

I am not sure of the value of this one, I have only head of this one once before and the guy said he loved it. I wouldn't get rid of that piece of family history though if I were you, if you need money at least sell it to someone in the family so it isn't lost forever. If you do sell it outside though, remember it should have a little additional value if you can have someone (either him or someone who lived with him or worked with him) sign that it was used by the sheriff of where ever and it should add a little extra to the value because of the story. Good luck...

You really need to get a qualified appraiser to look it over. And I mean hold it in his hands and closely examine it. That is the only way to get a good appraisal.

I'm not sure how much of a Parker Expert he is, but Mr. Thad Scott of Thad Scott's Fine Guns in Indianola, MS is an expert appraiser. His phone number is 662-887-5929, and his web address is: http://www.thadscott.com/

Good Luck, and WAR EAGLE!!!!

Use them!!! I hunt every year with an old Winchester that was my Great Grandfathers that dates back to 1897. I also have an old Marlin Model 39A that was made in the early 1950s that will out shoot anything made today.

DJ is correct on this one. Digital close up photographs would help greatly to identify it. Parkers are a challenge for some people to appraise.
