The WHA(world hunting association) proposes to broadtcast "catch and release" hunting compitions between pro hunters in high-fenced enclosures! They use tranquilizer darts via bow or rifles, then drugged deer would be measured to add to competitor scores! the "winner" gets big prize money. Like they think it's bass fishing. They want to telvise this program. WHAT IS YOUR TAKE ON THIS? I think it goes against every tradition, ethic and reason we are "hunters". If carried out it could irreparably damage the american hunting heritage! The WHA claims that it will draw more young people to hunting. If this is what it takes to secure our future, than we already lost! Imagine deer running off drugged up, they could fall into as much as one inch of water and die or brake a leg don't forget they don't plan on killing them. So if they brake a leg then what!? They rehabilitate them, yeah right!

I was always told that salmon do not eat on their way up river to spawn, that they will only strike a lure out of aggression. I wondered why do fishermen use something called a sardine wrap on some lures to entice a bite. They also use roe and catch salmon. I was then told that salmon go for the roe for the juices the roe contained, because they are hungry but can't eat because their throats have become too small to swallow any of their regular sized food once they start upriver. Any body know anything about this?

A very helpful answer to one of my previous questions re: recommended firearm for home defense/target shooting recommended a .38/.357 revolver. Being a novice, I hadn't heard of this firearm before.

Does anyone have any first hand reviews of this model, recommendations, price, and pros/cons?

Thanks so much.

I'm looking for a small handgun primarily for home defense, secondarily as a tool for sport (shooting for fun). My priorities, in order, are: ease of use, safety/reliability, stopping power, non-penetration through thin walls, and durability (so that I can set it aside for months at a time without maintenance or attention without it falling apart).

I live in the San Francisco Bay area, so any restrictions as to models etc. apply. Any recommendations as to the best models, given the above, would be appreciated. I would especially appreciate first-hand experience and price information.

Thanks.

Does a rising or falling barometric pressure affect fishing? If so, for better or worse?

I had some great answers on yesterdays questions(all but one)I respect everyones opinions good and bad.My question for the day is what is your favorite thing about hunting? Mine is taking my 9 year old daughter with me and having a good time no matter if it is sitting on a stand ,throwing rocks in a creek ,wandering around in a cemetary,or whatever she wants to do at the time.I used to be the kind that got in my stand an hour before daylight and worked hard to get a good buck every year, but that does not seem to be my main goal anymore.I still do like to kill a big one when I get the chance.

I am in Michigan and steel shot is required,or a non-tox alternative. I am looking for shot size, cartridge length, magnum or non-magnum. I am looking for some experts on shotgun ballistics. I shoot a Benelli Super Black Eagle II with a 28" barrel.

Looking for trails of not more than 3-5 miles, well-marked trails, not too much elevation change, for some nice relaxed and easy day-hiking. Suggestions please?
