I would be more concerned about your scent than the doe urine or calls. If a deer winds you, you won't see them. Use scent blocker on your clothes and use some sort of cover scent while in the woods. I put a little Raccoon urine on my boots and that seems to work well.
Also you said you don't see deer well, I am willing to bet they see you. You should have more than one place to hunt. If you are always walking in the same way to the same stand deer will know this.
If hunting in a tree stand approach different ways on different days so deer wont have you patterned. Overhunting an area will cause them to go nocturnal or leave the area.
Be careful with the calls and the scent. If you over do it that could be worse than not having them at all. Good luck and be safe.

yes they will react, depending on the scent used. NEVER use high profile esturus scents in early season. bucks know when the does are in cycle and it dang sure aint in early season. Ive been bow hunting for over 20 years and never really have been able to tell the difference either way. As a matter of fact i am a smoker and i smoke in my tree stand , hasnt affected my confirmed kill rate what so ever. only thing ive used recently is c'mere deer, sprinkled close to a trail crossing a creek, I can testify that DO love that stuff. As far as other scents if using doe urine on a drag string make sure not to walk directly to your tree, approach the tree stand and stop within your shooting range, walk to the left and back then the right and circle around in front of your stand around to the trail you left and then follow to your stand. if you walk right to your stand where do you thing the deer are going right to the tree and then look up at you ;). but this is all from personal experience, if you dont mind taking a chance missing out on a trophy try the differents scents available and use what you notice works best.

Call a little but not aggressively. Use scent blocker but do not use any kind of "doe in heat" scent (it will run off early season deer) they know it's not time. Sit quietly and mind the wind. Set up downwind of where you think a deer will appear. A few good examples are saddles in ridgelines, funnel points between heavy cover and a food source, and creek bottoms. I personally never use scents or scent blocker but I always watch the wind and I have seen and shot many deer inside of 20 yards.

An older guy I knew for years and used to go raid his gun cabinets with his son (he had alot of guns and ammo he'd let us use for targets and hunting and yes at that age we were supervised if we did something wrong we'd get our asses whipped) but he'd use some scent away on his boots when walking to his stands and for ground blinds he'd take his wife's old panty hose and put charcoal in it then smash it with a hammer (at home) and hang that in the top of his ground blind. It worked for him as far as covering scent. I don't know what calls or other lures he used but he always used up his tags each season on some nice deer.

the best thing I learned from over the years is to sit all day. If near apple trees use cider its cheaper and sweeter than apple scent. Don't waste you money on all those scents at the store they urine has a shelf life!!! I found this out a couple of years ago from a friend that works at Dick's sporting goods. he told me to use vanilla extract on a cotton ball (just alittle)

early in the season, before the rut, try rattling antlers, grunt calls, or buck scents on scrapes, because they are more interested in establishing themselves with 'the boys' than they are in chasing the girls. Once the rut starts then try using doe scents to draw them in.
