The WHA(world hunting association) proposes to broadtcast "catch and release" hunting compitions between pro hunters in high-fenced enclosures! They use tranquilizer darts via bow or rifles, then drugged deer would be measured to add to competitor scores! the "winner" gets big prize money. Like they think it's bass fishing. They want to telvise this program. WHAT IS YOUR TAKE ON THIS? I think it goes against every tradition, ethic and reason we are "hunters". If carried out it could irreparably damage the american hunting heritage! The WHA claims that it will draw more young people to hunting. If this is what it takes to secure our future, than we already lost! Imagine deer running off drugged up, they could fall into as much as one inch of water and die or brake a leg don't forget they don't plan on killing them. So if they brake a leg then what!? They rehabilitate them, yeah right!

This honestly sounds like a lose lose situation. This will bring more attention to the sport of deer hunting but at the same time it it the wrong attention we need. In some places deer are legally killed out of season because they have over populated an area hint killing and processing of meat is good for the deer. But I agree a drugged up deer can very easily be injured in the woods. Catch and release in fish is different there is no "drugging" and fish can recuperate faster and stay alert. I could not disagree with this idea more.

That is not a sport! Maybe they should let us shoot them with tranquilizers and see how it is to wander around in the bush dazed and confused. Just the fact they are in enclosures takes away most of the sport itself. I have been a hunter for over 30 years and the thought of their proposal makes me sick. Hunting is not all about the kill it is about getting out and enjoying what nature has to offer and actually killing an animal is a bonus.

This isn't helping the sport of hunting at all. One, a major plus for true hunting is the control and management of huge, nitetime highway prowling car collisioning herds of deer. Even if this so called sport lured only 10 percent of true hunters away from the real kill, thats roughly 100,000 more deer on our highways our loved ones have to watch out for. Me, I'd rather track a good ol blood trail anyday, than have the state patrol clean the blood off the highway from someones, parent, child, spouse, or friend. Just because someone ran out of ways to earn a easy buck, no pun intended.

The WHA is a disgrace to all sportsmen. I am an avid hunter and hunt with gun, bow, and black powder and my motto is you don't shoot unless you are certain you are going to kill an animal. Catch and release behind tall fences? That goes against everything hunters have stood for for years. North American Hunting clud had an editorial about WHA in the current issue and it is amazing how much crap these people are taking from every legitimate hunting organization and outfit. I have a great respect for the whitetail and WHA wants to turn a wild animal into a rodeo animal.

This type of garbage seems more of something for tv ratings than actually promoting hunting as a sport. It may draw more attention to hunting but not the good kind. If WHA wants to ruin hunting, this will definately give the anti-hunting movement all the ammo it'll need. It will be ironic, if this comes to pass, that an organization that is supposed to promote hunting actually helps ruin it. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot....

first of all it isn't hunting unless animal can actually get away. high fences are just bigger cage and in my book this is caned hunting just bigger can . we are terrible arrogant and wicked people thinking that we control every living thing on this planet in our favor . a trophy is something you have to work hard to get and the meat is precious and never gets wasted . we eat cows chickens and pigs and put them threw terrible suffering and think little of that then we cant even go to true wild on the animals level playing field to at least put serious effort in killing Gods gift to us . we must teach the truth about hunting and what God intends for us to do . kids dont need this kind of hunting they need true hunting with experienced guide like relative or dad to show them why and how it should be done . the proper teaching dosent make animal killers it makes animal lovers who learn how and when to harvest properly and the knowledge that done improperly will cause the animal to become extinct and then no more hunting . so answer is obvious but coalition's and manufacturers are doing these things in our name but true reason is money and animal means very little to them .

I never considered hunting a sport, I hunt for the meat, the experience of participating in the balance in nature, the tradition and right of passage for our young men. This is not hunting, this is just shooting for entertainment. Maybe they should combine this crap with paintball and shoot each other with tranquilizer darts! The article in link below has a good perspective.

sounds like the big fish tank at bass pro shop. we dont need to "draw more young people into the "sport"". Why do they call it a sport if an animal is mistreated in this way? it goes against what sportsmen should be aiming for: a quick kill where the deer is dead before it has time to feel any pain.

If PETA would seek to ban "greased pig wrestling competitions" at state fairs because it "traumatizes" the pig, then how much more so would they view this?
If someone's going to put a deer through all that, they might as well kill it for the meat.
Also, enclosure-hunting to me, is not true hunting. Go out in the wild.

Do you have a link to where you read about this? Im not doubting you, would just like to read it for myself.

In the meantime tho, this goes against all I believe and most everyone I know around here. We are in an area of avid hunters and sportsmen. Dont know too many people who would approve or support this, let alone watch it.
