I am VERY stiff, and its killing me in my karate class. I'm only 21 years old and in good shape but my stretching is just horrid. Is this cheap leg stretcher any good?

http://www.amazon.com/Tiger-Claw-Steel-Leg-Stretcher/dp/B0000CA2PA/ref=pd_bbs_sr_10/105-7110106-9762855?ie=UTF8&s=sporting-goods&qid=1192154216&sr=8-10

Also, when I try to touch my toes, my back REFUSES to arch over if I have my legs locked. Why does this happen!!! Why cant a stretch like a normal person!

At the height of its power and popularity, the Ultimate Fighting Championship today lost the man many recognize as the face of mixed martial arts. UFC heavyweight champion Randy Couture announced his resignation from the Las Vegas-based promotion, leaving two contracted fights, his job as an on-air analyst and his heavyweight crown on the table.
In South Africa shooting scenes for his lead role in the upcoming feature film The Scorpion King Rise of the Akkadian, Couture made the announcement official in a letter to UFC president Dana White. The UFCs inability to land PRIDE heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko played a prominent role in the decision to walk away, according to Couture.
I appreciate this opportunity the sport of MMA and the UFC has given me, the UFC Hall-of-Famer said. However, Im tired of swimming upstream at this stage with the management of the UFC. It only makes sense at this point in my career to fight Fedor Emelianenko, and since hes now signed with another organization, I feel like it?s time to resign and focus on my other endeavors.?

Do you buy martial arts related books(for supplemental purposes not as a sole method of training)? If so, has it helped? What books do you have?

but I probably can't join a dojo for financial reasons. Does anyone have suggestions on any books that I could buy (that are accurate!) or websites to use? I would like to begin training myself, at least until I can join a dojo. Also, is there anything that I should know about Kenpo Karate before I begin training? Any advice would be welcomed.

Does anybody know where some hardcore martial arts videos are? I'm not talking about instructional videos or that wushu crap thats fake I'm talking about like two masters of the same style or a different style in a REAL fight going head to head full on as hard as possible trying to beat the crap out of each other. I want to see what you can really do with martial arts, not like you see in the movies, and not on instructional videos where everything is slowed down. I've looked on youtube and havnt been able to find anything so if you could post up links or tell me what to type in the search bar that would be great. thanks.

I was working with my instructor the other day, and he was trying to teach me a concept, but it just wasn't sinking in. For whatever reason I just wasn't learning what he was trying to teach me. He finally got frustrated with me and said "that's it, we're done"

I could tell he was annoyed with me. I'm feeling pretty discouraged because I was trying very hard but he seemed to think I wasn't interested in learning what he was trying to teach me.

I feel sort of like I'm unteachable right now. I just have a negative feeling about everything and I'm starting to feel like maybe I'm just not cut out for martial arts. Up until that moment, I had a very positive outlook. I looked forward to going and working with everyone. Now I don't know anymore.

Has anyone been in a similar situation? How do you pick yourself up after your confidence is shaken?

At least, I'm pretty sure it's a Jujutsu technique. It looks like a throw from sankyo (both standing position). If you could, try to explain how it's done.

I studied taekwondo for 5 years now and its fun but i dont think it will help me if i face a real life situation. E.G STREETFIGHT

i heard of this martial art called KRAV MAGA after me and my friend watched The Bourne Ultimatum (movie kicks ***)

they told me that it was the fighting style he used and it was for real life fights not tournaments or demos.

Do you recommend Krav Maga for streetfights? where i live is sometimes people get jumped so i better know how to protect myself and not just show flashy kicks.

And is krav maga all about defense or does it also teach you how to kick and KO your opponent?

Hello All,

My Question is this ..”What would be the best form of Martial Arts to practice for someone that has had dual knee surgery and is in their Early 40’s?

“The Knee surgery was not a replacement but a scoping however I no longer have a “Full Range of Motion” which I believe would make it difficult to practice certain forms of martial arts that have a lot of Kicks.

Oh I am also looking for something that will be Kid Friendly as I have 4 year old daughter that I want to take classes too.

im small and pretty strong but am looking for "passive" self defence, the kind where you don't necessarily attack the person but just disarm their attacks against you.
