And why?

I want to add that I've seen some pretty quick take-downs in Judo. So there are ways that take-downs can be just as quick as a KO. Just something else to throw into the mix.

why not a knock out kick (yeah yeah a TKD guy) all I have done is "stand-up" I have some sweeps and throw in my arsenal, but I am reluctant to get in that range... although some MT is doing me some good...... but I would have to say it depends on the spacing and the ability levels of you and your opponent... I mean if i am in a fight with someone and i cant get the knock out punch or kick :)... more than likely I am screwed, but I would try a take down, and I would prefer not to go down with them... but I am an old dog willing to learn new tricks, and going to try o learn the ground game after about 6 more months of MT... did i answer the question or dodge it, I need to look into politics

A great Ko punch. The great punch also helps you takedowns because the other fighter has to be very cautious coming in. Look at Chuck Liddell against Ortiz. Tito was so worried about Chuck's takedowns he wasn't even coming close to a takedown.

KO punches can end a fight quick with takedowns it is rare to see a fight end on a takedown.

It's a no brainer, a KO punch is always preferable to a take down. There's less effort involved especially if you miss, you can always try again. Besides, against multiple opponents, I'd rather KO punch em one at a time than take em down to the ground one by one.

Takedown. Basically judomofo said it pretty well but here's a few thing I think he left out.
1. even if you have a great knock out punch its still not going to work most of the time. a good takedown works the majority of the time
2. there are takedowns which can knock you out, or if they don't hurt just as much or more than a punch. (ex. blast double, barsagard, some firemans, salto or just about anything that lands you on your head)
3. throwing someone on their head is a much more reliable way to knock someone out than punching them (like judo said before why hit them with your fist when you can hit them with a planet)
4. most good takedowns are barely slower than a punch.

I would choose a knock out punch over a take down. A take down doesn't end anything but a knock out sure does.

KO punches are great, but honestly anyone who has fought for a while can tell you different people have different succeptability to being knocked out.

Some guys are just damn harder to KO than others. Any time you are standing up slugging with a guy, you are risking getting hit yourself.

In a multiple attacker situation, you can only hit one person at a time, while you are lining up the KO shot on one guy, two others are going to be hitting you from behind. Stand up, take downs, it doesn't matter, multiple attacker situations (TRUE multiple attacker situations are going to end with you taking some punishment).

Since the actual possibility of street fighting is RARE as hell, I think of ring wise, and I would rather have AMAZING takedown skills, then AMAZING KO power. It is A LOT easier to neutralize someone with great KO power than it is to neutralize someone with great takedowns. Great takedowns are just harder to defend.

In a head to head match up, a person with great takedowns and ground skills generally wins against someone with a great KO, we have seen it time and time again. While the person has a "Puncher's chance" it is generally thought of in that manner "a wild chance to land a shot". The more you stand up with someone, the higher risk for you getting hit as well.

I would rather have GOOD Ko punches, and good takedowns, then to be amazing at one but suck at the other.

That is just my opinion

knock out punch. It's quick, easy and over with. With a take down you still have to finish them off.

A great knock-out punch.
I just don't like rolling around on the ground unless there is no other choice.

Just keeps things quick and simple.(in the best case)

I'd rather develope a quicker way to make money. As for the punch vs takedown, I'll go with punch. A fast takedown is only a way to take your opponent to the floor.

depending how you look at it a knock out is a takedown as well. I think a knock out leaves less possibility for the opponent to get back up and gat back at you. so I'd tend to go for a knock out.
