Interesting question. I forgot all about Diamond Dave and his stage antics. I saw Van Halen in concert back in 79 or 80. He did a lot of high kicks and jumping splits back then.
Apparently Kung Fu was his original art from this interview.
TW: Kung Fu is your martial art, right?
DLR: Yes, well, Nike Kung Fu. I generally run.
TW: But seriously, you practice with weapons, right?
DLR: Constantly. I’ve been doing it since I was 12 years old, long before I was into music.

DLR: I think more than anything it’s informed my patience. It’s also affected my capacity to stay cool.

I would say that he is very good considering his stage show, and he will not directly answer the question about martial arts, other than saying he started at age 12. This is the only subject Dave has ever showed any humility on.

David Lee Roth used to take private BJJ lessons from UFC Champ Matt Serra a few years back. Probably the equivalent of a Blue Belt in the Renzo Gracie which would rank alot higher in some other schools

Well , I remember him performing a Wushu broadsword form and what appeared to be a long fist form in one of his music videos, am not sure if it was the video of the song "Jump", so he appears to have trained in Wushu. Wushu have sashes not belts and I have no Idea what rank David Lee Roth has. But judging from his form in the video, I'd say in terms of forms competitions, he wasn't half bad.
