Like in the movie Enter the Dragon, there is an Island where they only train for martial arts. Obviously that is a stretch to have an island devoted only to it, but are there any camps or sites in the world that people go to and live there for years and study martial arts? After watching Enter the Dragon yesterday I was thinking that and became curious. Thanks!

I'm certain that I'm not doing anything wrong but I can't seem to stretch beyond a certain point.

I feel nothing like what a stretching muscle feels like when I stretch beyond a certain point. It seems like if I push my self too far I might dislocate my joints. I've never pushed it that far though because it gets painful.

Is it possible that my joints are not able to do the splits?

The type of splits I am trying to do are, what I will call, "side splits". The one where you legs move outwards to the left and right, not forward and backwards.

Hey. I live in Orlando, Florida. I have a thing for martial arts, and Silat and Bokator recently caught my eye. Are there any places in the US to learn either of them, or do they even let foreigners learn it in Malaysia/Cambodia?

I have osteoarthritis with one ruptured and one bulging disc in my neck. The more long, brisk walks I take, the better my posture gets and the better I feel. Stretching for flexibility also helps me very much. And I practice mindfulness meditation for about twenty minutes a day (lying down).

Since I can't do high-impact exercise, I'd like to improve my posture and co-ordination with T'ai Chi. Are there different schools? If so, would one be better for me than another?

Also, is it possible to benefit (physcially and mentally) from T'ai Chi whether one studies/believes the philosophy behind it or not? What is the philosophy behind it, and what books would you recommend for study?

And how can I know whether the teacher of a local T'ai Chi class is qualified? Are there standards?

Finally, is there another low-impact martial art or exercise program that might benefit me more than T'ai Chi?

Thanks much in advance.

exciting than the current UFC with more rules and are so predictable with two men wrestling around on the ground for a long time is quite boring.

I'm a huge Bruce Lee fan, and I'm sure this question has run through the minds of all of you. If Bruce Lee was in his prime today, what would be the outcome of a fight b/w him and these modern day Ultimate Fighters? I know it's hard to compare the two, but what do you think?

Due to a recent case of a MA instructor being arrested for abuse of students (hitting them in stances etc...), our state (Virginia) is considering legislation to regulate MA instructors and schools. What do you think? good or bad idea? pros / cons? how would you regulate? what standards? who gets to decide?
