Like in the movie Enter the Dragon, there is an Island where they only train for martial arts. Obviously that is a stretch to have an island devoted only to it, but are there any camps or sites in the world that people go to and live there for years and study martial arts? After watching Enter the Dragon yesterday I was thinking that and became curious. Thanks!

you have to get a reconition letter sent with you and signed by who ever sent you speaking for you they are called live in students that is all they do is train cook clean ect...

Yes our MA association has , there is one dedicated centre call Jade Court, in New Zealand. Which is run as a full time Centre, Also where I use to train in Picton, New Zealand, was called The Insights Martial Arts Centre, 10,000Sq ft purpose built training facility, was open 6 days aweek, but we also ran national training camps 4 times ayear from there as well as other programmes.

There are camps like the movie; I wouldn't know about an entire island. I know in places like the Philippines and Indonesia fighting forms are studied and those places are made up of a lot of islands. I do know of a Dojo in Toronto, Canada that has 600 students; a lot of them move to the area near the Dojo and they teach nearly 10 different fighting forms. I do not know the name I only know of it because my teacher trained with the owner and showed us pictures of the place.

Yes, there are plenty of camps dedicated to martial arts.
One (of many) examples would be the numerous muay thai camps in thailand, where people train (and live), solely training in martial arts hours a day.

The "camp" in Enter the Dragon was meant to stylize the Shaolin Temple in China. The Temple is such a camp, though it is not located on an island.

If you are interested in an intensive training program, there are namy dojo that have a live-in student program where all you do is study for a one year period. Normally you will get a shodan at the end of this period of study. A dojo mate of mine went through this type of program for Yoshinkan Aikido and I know that Greg Tremblay is running a Bujinkan live in program this year. If you are interested, I can give you more information.

From my days years ago in TKD, we has a "summer camp" it was in a "National Forrest" camp site... we all slept in tents, started working out at 6am (running 3 miles) and then did various drills outside or our regular curriculum, all ate lunch together an hour break, then back at it until 6 pm... then we would gather around our various campfires and relax.. it was one weekend every year and there were over a hundred ppl there every year.... It wasnt a lifestyle, but it was pretty cool

Yes. The town just outside Shaolin Temple was extremely busy, although they have closed some of the schools there in the last 5 years.

Tiger Schumann's used to run a summer Karate camp.
I don't know of any other regular camps. Our school runs seminars at a campground sometime we run it like a training camp. Lots of fun.

a long time ago there were large groups of people that only practiced martial arts yes, lot harder to come by now if it even exists.
