First off, I am NOT a Matt Serra fan...he runs his mouth too much and in my opinion is a whiner. Having said that, I don't think he faked his injury to get out of getting smashed by Hughes. I don't think he will beat Hughes or GSP (a second time). I can't wait until he fights Hughes because he is gonna get owned, Serra in my opinion isn't even top 3...but again, it's my opinion.

As much as I am not a fan of Serra and was looking forward to seeing Hughes beat him, I do have to come to Serra's defense and point out that he has absolutely no history of ducking opponents. So I think that we can reasonably assume that he isn't faking an injury. Seriously his last fight was against an apparently unstoppable GSP who had just come off of a dominant win over Hughes, so why would he duck this fight? He may, in my oppinion, be loud, annoying and an ***, but he is not the type to duck a fight. On the plus side we get to see Hughes-GSP 3, which should be a much more exciting fight than Hughes-Serra, and I highly doubt that Hughes-Serra will not happen at some point. The UFC put too much into it to let that fight never happen. This is all just another slight delay.

I for one was disappointed to hear that this match was not going to take place. I was looking forward to it since matches like this carry more drama and interest. As for being injured I say two things. First, fighters for years have been getting injured while training and have continued to train and met their obligation to go through with a fight or match. Secondly, some fighters have used such an excuse to avoid fighting a particular person so that they can hold onto their title a little bit longer or wait until the other fighter is more vulnerable to being beaten by them. After everything he has had to say about how he was going to take Hughes apart and also the fact he expected his own friend to press on and continue to train rather than leave the show his own decision to not fight is a little shaky. He obviously could say I can do this in six months and we can settle this all then and if he is sincere that is what he will do. If not then whatever he says stands for little or nothing and is shaky at best but eventually I think he will have to face Hughes. You can bet Huges is doing a slow burn on this and will wait until the cows come home for a rematch and will settle it in the cage where it belongs.

As much as I would absolutly love to agree with you and say that it was very probable that Serra is duckingHughes in hopes that someone else (in this case GSP) would beat him so that Serra wouldnt have to fight him, i dont think so. Cuz hes gotta be smart enough to realize that the fight between him and Hughes will happen eventually no matter who wins, hughes or gsp. if hughes win, then he fights serra sometime next yr, if gsp wins, he fights serra sometime next yr, and eventually, highes still gets a shot at serra, championship or not.

i think the guy is actually hurt, im sure he thinks he can beat hughes, he thought he could beat gsp, he did, and gsp is better than matt hughes. so why would he fake an injury to get out of the fight? i'm not one to question a guys heart like that, you have no idea what his injury is like, so basically you are a jackass. and btw i'm not a matt serra fan and i do think he would have lost the fight to hughes.

good job doing research instead of just trolling. He hurt his back while demonstrating a move during one of those UFC All Access shows. Serra would not fake an injury to duck Hughes...

He herniated two disks in his back and suddenly he's being a puss? I don't get people like you, Serra WHOOPED GSP, who whooped Hughes. I see a flaw in your logic.

Yeah...
This really sucks for Hughes.
He finally would have gotten the title fight which he finally deserves.
Instead, he gets to fight GSP, which he already fought couple of times.
I really wanted to see how the fight would have turned out.
