i alwas see ppl saying that a 5'6 150 pound guy can take on a 6'0 200 pound guy. I dout that. I'm 5'6 150 and vary scrappy (wrestled through out high school and did martial arts for almost seven years) , but i know i cant take some 6'0 200 dued. I think that a small guy can take a big guy that is not all that good at fighting, but i think that an okay big fighter can take a good small fighter (and a great legindary small fighter can take an okay big guy). Do u think a small guy can take on a big guy? Please before answering read every thing i have to say. I know i'm going to get a lot of crap for this one. There is also one exeption for this, do you know i'm going to say?

For all those who do not live in the uk you may not know that basicly we are not allowed to carry anything for self defence reasons weather it be a gun peper spray a swiss army knife
You could walk down the street get attacked and if you use any sort of force to defend yourself you can get arrested taken to court or even sued.

My question is there any way of defending yourself without facing being arrested or going to court. For example if you carried a pen that you use for wrighting and used them if you where attacked point being you use its not a weapon and you did not go out to use the pen to harm anyone and someone attacked you and you used it in self defence.

Would this work out or is there anything else you could do?
It is a sorry state when the people of the uk cant walk down the street and feel safe and when they are attacked the law is not on their side.

this is one i have been meaning to ask for some time. now i have in the past gotten into trouble with the powers that be in martial arts for my beleif that the only language a bully understands is a smack in the mouth-and you must do this from the outset. but according to some we have to "talk" to them-patronise them. apparently at school the victim has to report the bully to the headmaster etc-but who is going to look after them outside the school gates??. at work we have to report them to the boss-defend yourself and you are looking at the sack!. i would be interested especially in the opinions of my fellow instructors out there-how do you approach the rather sensitive issue of bullying??.

whats the quickest way to end fights out on the street.just real simple ways without having to struggle with the enemy.i have came across to bullies at my school so i have been taken my karate classes much more serious know that i have bullies to worry about.they wanted to take my phone but i ran.
what are some quick ways to knock people out and what are good weaons i can carry with me.not nessiray weapons but stuff that i can make weapons like belts pencils and stuff like that.ive started carrying aound a sharpened comb with me whenever i walk to school.the phone incident happened a few days ago.do bullies just mess with people and try to get them scared and if the person is not scared then they will leave them alone? but are there some bullies out there that will stil mess with you even if your not scared?
i want to end fights quick instead of just squaring off with the person.i want the fight to start and try to make it end within seconds if possible.please good answers!:)

once again i find myself at odds with my peers on the importance of poomsae (patterns) v the ability to defend myself. i beleive the martial arts world-in particular TKD places too much emphasis on patterns and not enough on the students ability to defend themselves-for example i have seen perfectly good fighters fail grading tests because their patterns were not up to spec-surely this cannot be right-if this continues we will live in world of dans who only attained their grade because of how their patterns looks-not true warriors. i have to admit this gives me cause for concern. your thoughts please.

because judo relies heavily on the gi is it actualy effective for a self defence situation, as when u go to throw there t-shirt or jumper will probably rip. in shuai jiao we use the limbs so we can throw our opponent.

is judo just used for a sport as it has no striking either, or i think anyway, please correct me if i am wrong

I was looking at the internet earlier today and it caught my eye on YouTube and Jeet Kun Do sites and forums. What is the best way to do it? What is the stance in Jeet Kun Do? Also, I was at the bookstore earlier today killing time before picking up my sister (goddamnit) and was in the martial arts section (surprise surprise!). It had a bunch of books on it, but I didn't have enough time in there, although one said Jeet Kun Do took many techniques from Kung Fu, Judo/Jujutsu, Wing Chung, Tai Chi, and even some Savate and Muay Thai. Any practitioners of Jeet Kun Do here or anyone who knows about it?

For the Judoka, BJJ people and wrestlers here...

What are are some good exercises for building your bridge and ability to throw heavy people off of you from the bottom?

Are there specific muscle groups I should train more that will help more than others?

Any crazy training exercises you can think of that will help?

PS I'm only 140lbs and want to work on being able to throw off people much heavier than I am. I've tried bridging with weights strung across me and tried using a weighted backpack on top of me. Neither work well and I want exercises I can do for when I'm not at the dojo w/ other people.

I've looked at Yin style Baguazhang and Nine-Dragon Baguazhang.. What is it good for, and what are the differences from any other style? I'm thinking about learning it but I am not sure if it will be useful to me.

I'm constantly hearing people quote similar approximate percentages, or they have an exact percentage of how many fights end up on the ground.

WHERE DID YOU FIND THE STATISTICAL ANALYSIS THAT GIVES YOU THIS PERCENTAGE!!

I can say with confidence that yes, fights often end up on the ground. i have been in combat sports and martial arts for twenty years, as well as having done plenty of empirical research on the street (lol). But I haven't done the research myself, and I can't find any group, university, law enforcement agency, etc. that gives this percentage. So please, send me a link or tell me where anyone has done this research.
And I DON"T want to hear people's opinions that they think support the percentage - only true statistics. I'm betting no one who has used the percentage of fights quote can find anything!
