By comparing.
The best way is to fight opponents who you think are about the same level as you. That's how samurai back in the days tested their ability and strength. By constantly challeging opponents who they thought are better than them.

I would say that if your peers recognize and respect you for your fighting skills and abilities is one way. Along that same line is that most good fighters know they are good within themselves and when they have not trained or been working out as much and fight they can tell a difference even though some or most others can't.

You Don't. A good fighter is not always measured by his talents in the ring or in a fight. A true sign of a good fighter is his ability to not fight or walk away from a fight. In the 1980's I was one of the top 10 Rated for my region with the PKL but this was not a sign of my abilities. The true sign was that I could live without fighting in the streets. You see a true fighter does not need to know he's the best or even good all he needs to know is that he does not need to fight.
I hope this answers your question to your satisfaction.

I would say you know your good when you look foward to competing.
You will have the ability to stay calm under fire and control your emotions which in turn sustains your energy level throughout a long fight.
That only comes with experience.
Just wanting to ruin a person's good looks is childish. It's more about testing and refining your own limits and consantly improving in the process.
That's what the martial arts is all about.

A fighter can tell when he is "good," when he is aware that he COULD beat up the person that's being cruel and blindly mocking him, and know that he doesn't need to fight. Martial Arts is a peaceful art, meant only to be used when necessary. What "good," means can be interpreted in many different ways and levels, so a direct answer I cannot give you. But a good fighter doesn't worry about his rank, but the quality of his or her work.
When a person has rejected laziness and ignored temptation, he is "good." When a person has chosen not to fight despite cruel words and threats, they are "good." When a person doesn't strive so much for the next level and rank, and focuses on his or her path to becoming an improved martial artist, they are "good." And when the person finds that he or she works harder than they did the previous day continuously without noticing or complaining, they are "good"
You can find yin in every martial artist, just as you find yang. When you don't focus on being good, and focus on improving your skills as you are, is when you are truely "good" without trying to be.

apart from an inner peace that being good brings-if you really want to see if you are a good fighter then take a trip to Shaolin in Henan province and have a spar with some students at the shaolin school.you can start with the 10 y.olds and then work your way upto the big lads, but my bet is that the 10 y.olds will make you realise that you ain't approaching moderate ,let alone good.

If you beat most people in your sport, you are above average, so can say you are "good".
