Yes. I knew of a blind judoka 25 years ago who routinely got to the state quarterfinals. I saw the state tournaments a few years ago, and he was still competing.

The refs allowed a helper on the side to tell him which way to turn to find his opponent. Once he made contact, the rest was up to him. He did very well at that point.

Yes a blind person can be trained to fight but the system of fighting would have to be a close quarter combat system where grappling techniques are used. You see the blind individual would have a difficult time (not impossible) fighting. But again this is my view for a better answer you should go to your Sensei since even though i teach I do not teach blind students and don't have the required experience to be an authority for this.

Of course!! Haven't you ever seen Master Po? JK.

The real answer is yes. If this person were to try hard and listen and feel and use every other sense to their greatest extent, they can learn as well as any other person. In fact, realisticly, Master Po really is a good example even though he's only a fictional character(sorry if you don't know what I'm talking about. It's from Kung Fu...starring David Carradine). But he used everything that could help him, and he fought as well as anyone. Perhaps they would find things more difficult, but if they tried, yes. Of course, they would have to develope their other senses far beyond what people today do because they are so used to being able to see.

In fact there are plenty of women who do kick boxing and no you do not need to be big and muscular for any martial art. As for what art you should look into then really that depends on what classes are available to you. You need to find out what there is in your area, take a look at each school - most will offer a trial session for free or at least let you watch a class first. Pick the best school you can with the art that you find yourself most drawn to. Good luck.

Sure. Yes you can train and be blind. Depends on the fighting style, however. Marital arts that involve a lot of contact with little space like Judo, Jujutsu, Wing Chun, and various other arts including Sambo. Striking arts, depending on distance, are difficult to defend when you can't see.

It would certainly make for an interesting match; the United States Army has blind personnel, so perhaps it's possible.

How Blind? I taught a girl who was officially "blind" in Clarion, Isshinryu Karate for a few years. She got as far as Green Belt.

Interesting question. I guess you can, and sharpen your other senses really well so it's just as good as not being blind.

Not sure though. =X
