Play dead... they will run away or get bored...

Just kidding- but don't carry sharpened objects with you, they can just as easily be used on you.. What you describe as a fight seems very movie like.. I wish it was that quick and easy and a crowd would gather and cheer you on, but that is likely not going to happen.. Talk to your karate instructor about the bullies and he can give you specific things to protect yourself.. for now, change your pattern a bit, or try to connect with a group of kids- power in numbers.., if you don't have a lot of friends get going on it- join a group/club.. bullies suck!!

Instead of carrying concealed weapons, try practicing more. I can't speak for other practitioners of martial arts but weapons slow me down a little. Now that I have to hold something, I am limited with one hand, or both(depending on the weapon.)
If you kick a bully in the groin and poke him in the eye, you go see the principle. If you stab the bully with a "sharpened comb", you get to talk to the police.

Also, bad things happen to you when attackers take your weapons and use them on you. Get better at empty hand technique so you don't have to rely on having weapons.
With that in mind, the whole idea of learning a MA is so the fight ends quickly in your favor. If your blocks suck, work on them. If you want to move faster, work on footwork and hand speed. There is no big secret, it just takes time and effort. Good Luck

To never start it. But, I guess you want more speciefics, right? A kick to a sensitive area, since legs are naturally more powerful, and have longer reaches. An instep to that obvioulsy painful area, or a kick to the solarplexus. I got kicked there one, and it took a while before I could stand upright. About..ten seconds, and it was a lighter kick. Not realy light, but deffinetly not hard. A HARD kick could take a minute to recover from, or knock the wind out of someone. I would go with that. If you wanna knock someone out, kick em in the head like to the temple or something where its really velnerable.

Well, I got news for you. Your going to face this bully again because you ran. Bullies are like animals, they prey upon those they presive as weak. Since you ran then to him his preception was correct. Your best bet is to make a stand, and fight. Don't let him know you know karate. No popping into a stance or ki yell. Let him find out after you've hit him. Be first to hit also. Put him on the defensive. Stop worrying about energy. You'll have plenty if you stay offensive.

I totally agree with you~! If we are always smiling, it would change our personality as well, our mentality would also become a lot more healthier, allowing us to build more friendships or acquaintances with the people around us. During work, co-workers would want to help you out more, and would want to get to know you a bit better. A good smile sometimes doesn't help too much in a fight if someone is trying to get a point across though. However, if we think of what they are trying to argue with you about, something that is trying to improve you as a person, I believe that is the time to show a smile, apologize, and really think about improving yourself. Anyway, thanks for asking this question, and also, always keep smiling :D

using correct hip rotation and body positioning a well executed right-hook to the point of the jaw usually suffices i have applied one (into a focus mitt) in one second from standing prone-that is to say with my hands by my sides and in a discreet 45 angle-but again as i said in another post we can explain in this forum-but not teach-for this you need to enlist the help of an expert-then practice.
