Is it just a creation of fiction or are there really people who used this kind of weapon? If so where is there a site where I can learn about this style?

well there is a Filipino staff that has a blade on each end about a foot long

There are Chinese swords with dual edged blades

but in all reality I don't think there would be a sword with a blade on each end. It would be very clumsy to use and there would be such a big danger of you slicing your own leg off that it just wouldn't be feasible.

I believe you are talking about the Chinese swords that appear to be one sword and suddenly two appear...

Yes, these are real swords.

They are the Butterfly swords used in the White Crane based arts and Wing Chun, which is also White Crane based. They are solid non-flexing blades.

The other is the Chinese double broad sword, usually taught within the Shaolin based arts.

Not all broad swords can be used this way. The double swords are made specifically like this. They are not common.

You might find them easily in spring steel, which is the flexible steel that a lot of practitioners use.

The really flexible ones are not very good but there are certain grades and gauges of spring steel swords that are "live" blades.

These type of blades are very dangerous.

They cut really ugly.

They are a weapon art, not a style.

This sword does exist. Besides its fictional portrayal in the movie KickAss, wielded by Hitgirl and sporting wide blades, you can buy the Sword of the Omega Galaxy online from most websites selling swords. The lowest price is Wild Bill Wholesalers. $20.98!!! It is a 46 inch long staff with the blades sheathed inside their opposing handles. Each blade is 10 inches long. It even has threads at the ends to connect into a 51 inch double bladed sword/staff! Just what you wanted. The handles are even carved to look lightsabery.

Yes, they were sued a long time ago, obviously. Do you know anyone who walks around with a double-bladed sword? If you do, never introduce me to your friends.

They are actually sortof Bos(staffs) with a blade on each end, ued the same way a staff would be used, only with a blade one each end instead of a pole. Pretty dangerous, actually. With a Bo, if you whack yourself, you just get a bruise. With these, if you whack yourself, you loose a limb or your head. Thats why they would most likely train with bos first, and then move on the the dual swords.

yea there are... I don't imagine they would be very safe to use, though... I trained in using a bo staff for a while and occasionaly if I did a move wrong I'de catch my Gi or jam myself in the ribs. Those are begginers mistakes, of course, but even the best make mistakes and if you accidently jammed jourself in the ribs with a bladed weapon that could spell your ending

if you mean the ones like Darth Maul but with blades, yes there are these types. I can't remember what type of martial art uses this but i've seen it in many stores in Chinatown.

Yes but they were never very popular for military or self-defense uses.
