you sound weak, as if your afraid to get hit or something. you want 2b the best? then FIGHT the best. how good can u be if you don't test your skills against someone. if you get your nose broken, then break the hand that broke your nose. then go after his family!

A new Karate student approached his master and asked, "How long will it take me to become the best martial artist in all the land?"
"Ten years."
"Ten years is a long time. What if I tried as hard as any other student?"
"Twenty years."
"What if I trained day and night, with all my heart and soul?"
"Thirty years."
"How is this? Each time I say I will try harder, you tell me that it will take me so much longer. Why?"
"The answer is clear. When one eye is set upon the destination, there is but one left to see the winding path that you must follow.

Many want to be one of the best, but the real best are actually the ones who didn't want to be the best. It pains me to see how much of a sport martial arts has become, and how people only want to fight and be called the best.
Learn patience before you can learn anything else. Tournaments are something I don't agree with, but if you like, who am I to tell you you can't? Just try your best and have patience. Work harder every day, and learn that you should only set a goal that you improve each day. Don't obsess and keep controll. My apologies to any offense.

I suggest a Street Fighter II tournament. Classic martial arts without the chance of physical harm. Check a local Game Stop for entry forms.

Everybody is scared of fighting, most people will not admit it and spout something like "It's pointless, its nothing like a street fight"

Full contact fighting is the best way to prepare yourself mentaly. You basicaly have a choice now, to face your fear, or go the other way and run away and make excuses for it. it seems like you want to fight but you are scared, well, everyone is scared even the guys who have been fighting for a long time

The difference is, those guys still go for it, they work through the fear instead of succuming to it. I don't think you can be a good fighter, let alone the best fighter if you never fight full contact or get into street fights for experience, experience is everything in martial arts, mental not just physical, good luck!

If you don't want to be the best "combat" martial artist (which will require many injuries most likely). You can become the best "performance" martial artist. That means you practice forms and perform then infront of a panel of judges. You good your performance looks will designate you a winner or not.

the fact that you do not want to get hurt does not make you weak-it is human nature-none of us wants to get hurt. you are taking the first steps to a wonderous journey you do what you want to-ignore the idiots-whether it is full-semi or light contact it takes a brave person (and a unique one) to step in the square circle-enjoy your journey.
