I'm fixing my grandfathers antique schwinn bike. And I have no clue how to start. I need to know how to paint it, if I need to sand the old paint off, where I can get tires, and anything else I need to get or do. Thx

I have searched on the internet but all I can seem to find are mountain bikes and I'd like something more traditional, but I am a poor student so I'm on a budget! I live in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire (near London). Thanks in advance! xxxxxxx

I have small and weak hands, so I need long brake levers to give me leverage on my brakes. I have a mountain bike with side-pull calipers.

Hi!!! I am looking for the best low-priced mountain bike. I am looking to spend between $200 - $375. As my only mode of transportation... I need a durable bike that's going to last. I will mostly be riding around town on pavement about 1-5 miles per day. I would also like to be able to use it on beginner-intermediate trails occasionally, nothing TOO hard-core, though!

I am a 5'4" petite female. I'm not quite sure what size would work best for me, the 24" bikes seem a little small and the 26" ones a little big. I'm currently using a mongoose crosstail hybrid which has been great, but needs to be replaced. I'd like a crosscountry hardtail that is light and fast.

So far I've looked around at some bikes @ the local Target, but I've read that those are generally not good enough for trail use, and they seemed a little cheap. SO... I'd like something with a little more quality that won't break the bank! Any tips, suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanx! :)

I'm a complete amateur when it comes to bicycles so need help! I've just bought a bike with Shimano nexus 8 speed hub gears, but am now wondering if I should have gone for the usual derailleur gears. I aim to use the bike for days out, mostly on road, although a small amount of light off roading may be on the cards at some point. Being a complete novice, can you advise me on things like the possibility of the gear system going wrong, the ease and costs of replacement or fixing, their general use in long distance riding as opposed to only commuting (ie, I've read that their range is more limited than derailleurs but HOW much more limited? I only tend to use 4 or 5 gears on a 21 speed anyway), etc etc. ANY info or advice will be really appreciated (including what your choice would be!)

This is the one that you always hear when the official cars want to get every one out of the way.

Is the Cannondale Rush Leftie a good bike for mountain bike riding and on fire trails?

Would a Mongoose be a better bike for mountain bike riding on fire trails with obviously multi suspension.

I was going to cap my spending on a bike at Aus$1500 but if the Cannondale Rush is worth it I can have seen one for $2400 brand new Cannondale Rush leftie.

I need advise.

Is Gitane any good for mountain bikes.

Mongoose has always been known for top of the line BMX bikes as been of strong build is it also the case for their mountain bikes.

The Cannondale Rush leftie looks like a great bike but is at good as what it seems with a single fork?

I was driving on the road one day and saw road bikers in spandex. I think they look like pansies. Not much technical skills involved either.

They're really interesting bikes, and they're supposedly much faster than a normal bicycle. So why don't more people ride them? - I'd love to have a recumbent tandem or sociable.

When you ride locally or during a tour do you wear your shorts to sleep in as well ? I do especially if I'm on a long distance tour to save on time the next day.

Derailleur gears are such a pain. Keep breaking, wearing out and are not efficient in practice. Also, all the stopping and starting in traffic.

I bought two old bicycles that have this very tough, brown, and almost moldy-looking crust that surrounds the base of the hand brakes. You can see a clearer picture here: http://www-hsc.usc.edu/~rpinder/images/ni6.jpg . Any idea what that is? And what is the best thing to use to clean it off (I've chipped most of it off)?
