I have searched on the internet but all I can seem to find are mountain bikes and I'd like something more traditional, but I am a poor student so I'm on a budget! I live in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire (near London). Thanks in advance! xxxxxxx

you sound like a good girl so why not put an advert in your local supermarket, they usually have a notice board.

just say "wanted- by girl student" and then say "second hand bicycle- any condition considered". And put your mobile no. on the card.

There are thousands of these old bikes just lying in garages and sheds all over the place.

The other thing to consider is whether your local council are big on "recycling". They will generally have a scrap metal skip, in a compound where the public can dispose of old srap metal. There are ALWAYS bikes there, just have a word with the guy.

A quiet word with your local dustmen won't go wrong either. They are very "resourceful" . That's is if you are ever up that early, of course.

I'm from High Wycombe but haven't lived there for a couple of years, but there used to be a bike shop on the Oxford road, a couple of shops down from the Blockbuster that is behind Sainsburys. It's across from where they're building the new shopping center on what used to be an old car park. I think it's called something Cycles.

They should either have used bikes or will be able to tell you exactly where in town you can get one.

Hope that helps!

I used to get my bikes from the Municipal Dump, but the charity shops are worth a look.

I gave away my last bike. I did not have a nerve to sell it. Tyres cost a bit and the derailleur gears are usually knackered.

These cheap mountain bikes only last aboiut six months before they fall to bits. The rod brake bikes last longest, but their performance is poor.

I suggest you read MOUNTAIN BIKE ACTION's latest issue (FEB. 2007) and read page 38. First Flight Vintage Bicycle Museum ( Statesville North Carolina) ----www.firstflightbikes.com if you have a penchant for old type of mountain bikes. Also mtbr.com!!! ( There are great old bikes in shops there in England---MERLIN,but pick up a copy of 'MBR' magazine and you'll find old school bikes at amazing prices!!! )
