Derailleur gears are such a pain. Keep breaking, wearing out and are not efficient in practice. Also, all the stopping and starting in traffic.

Giant make a crx city that is fitted with the shimano nexus system (8 speed). Cost is less than its derailleur cousins. Unfortunately it doesn't appear to be available in the U.K.. Could be worth annoying your local Giant dealer about. Maybe they have something similar. You might be able to send for one over the channel.

At least the nexus system is available. You could fit it to your own bike

The only thing I can find in U.K. that has this fitted is the joey commute.(See below) (I'm in Australia so it's a bit hard to check for you)

There are quite a few manufactures offering this system so check them all out.

precise, the free Spirit initially had a Shimano hub. i imagine of you purchased a Sturmey Archer or Sunrace hub, no longer a Shimano Nexus. optimistically you purchased an similar shifter and each and every of the hardware that is going with it. AND that the bell crank (the chain) comes out the similar ingredient because of the very actuality the unique hub. Shimano makes use of an "L" formed bell crank with a pushrod- thoroughly diverse. the interior the hub has a sequence of planetary gears. as you actuate the shifter, the numerous substantial kit interior swaps places (it is why you should stop pedaling as you shift even as utilising internally geared hubs) and in turn differences the kit ratio. This setup has been shown over an prolonged time... the Shimano counterparts, in evaluation, have an fairly undesirable (and deserved) popularity. Internally geared hubs at the on the spot are not for the newbie to position in or take care of... with all due appreciate, take it to a bike save for ideal setting up... yet call round to make particular they have a mechanic it fairly knows about them.

Hi the only quality hub in a rolhoff hub which is used for mud and desert. A lot of cyclists who cross the Australian deserts only use these hubs.
