I have a small frame bike - a raleigh venture
- the top tube comes up to about 3 or more inches below my crotch area
- the seat, when i stand over it, is in just the right place

the guy who was trying to sell me bikes told me that this would just not do, that a person my height (5'10.5", 29 inch inseam) would be crazy to ride the small frame over a long distance... but me riding it around now, i don't see the big deal... someone tell me why it would be such a problem if the seat is in the right place.
i mean, he took one look at it and said "take it back, get rid of it, get a large frame bike, this won't work"

do i need to go out and pick up a new 400 dollar passage or can i ride this venture i have now?

2. Ritchey WCS Carbon Compact Crankset
3. FSA SLK Compact Carbon Crankset

Thanks in advance.

I read on Wikipedia that they have standard 20" tires, but that's all it said about it. My 9 year old son has a bike and has been trying to turn the one he has into a bmx bike. He removed all the breaks so that the front steeringwheel now freespins. Is that normal. He now has no breaks. (Doesn't really matter because we live way out in the country where it's flat). Anyway, do bmx bikes have rear breaks? I'm thinking of buying him one for his upcoming birthday, but don't know anything about them. Which is a good brand to buy that's not too expensive ( $100 or less)?
Any answers will be much appreciated!

I have been riding 20 miles a few times a week on hilly roads. I rode 50 once, but felt it. I want to ride 100 by the fall, if I keep riding and work up, will I have enough time to be ready by then?

In Mountain Bike Action magazine's first test of the Santa Cruz Nomad back in 2005, its head angle was 68 degrees, seat tube angle was 71 degrees, and wheelbase was 43.6 inches. Now in the February 2007 issue of Mountain Bike Action, the Nomad's geometry has changed: head angle is 67 degrees, seat tube angle is 70 degrees, and wheelbase is 44.1 inches.

Does it mean that '07 frames are different from those made in '05? Do these differences in frame geometry affect the Nomad's versatility as "the one bike" (the bike that can climb and descend equally well)?

I'm planning a 340 mile pittsburgh-to-D.C. bike trip along the allegheny/c&o canal bike trails, and i'm planning on camping most or all of the nights --- i'm getting a super lightweight tent to carry with me...

what advice do the experienced riders have for a newbie? the longest trip i ever made was 72 miles in a weekend when i was 13 from cumberland to DC... and it was a great time, so i want to do it again, only this time -- a longer trip, now that i'm 23.

advice for safety, morale, how to carry supplies (light backpack a bad idea in addition to bike pack? what sorts of bike packs are best for weight distribution and carrying things?), advice regarding safe diets, safe travel, and anything else you can think of as "basic" and important for me to know.

i want to leave in 2 weeks and i'm planning now. there's only so much time before i have to get a new job.

I've heard some bikes referred to as having stiff frames or flexible. What does this mean, and is one better than the other? Are there certain types of bikes you'd want to be stiff or to be flexible??

Ive been thinking to buy a bike for some time now, But always get a cold feet! of not knowing what to buy!

Any how, recently Canadian Tire, has a %50 off on Schwinn bikes for $299, reg price is $499. Aluminium frame with shimano pieces on it. Now, i may occasionally go off-road or may be a bit mountain as well. One thing that confuses me is that, there's no shock on the body, only on the front wheel. As you have noticed, i don't know much about bikes, so is this going to give me a bad rid? ALSO, what is your input on the whole thing? Price, Schwinn, condition,...THANKS.

I need help with a road part. Can someone remind me whether the 9 speed generation Ultegra bottom bracket is compatible with Dura Ace. I have a bike for sale with Dura Ace but the bottom bracket is shot and I'd rather just throw an Ultegra unit in there.

Thanks.

one time me and my friend were biking in the sidewalk (we were both wearing helmets) and then two other guys went past us and he said to us "safety first" in a mocking way. so, basically, will a helmet make you look more like a geek??

Apparently 500,000 lined the route for the start in London. I can't believe there would be 5,000 people in England who even care about cycle racing let alone half a million. Not knocking it but cycling isn't really our thing is it? I would expect a bigger crowd at the World Conkers Championships to be honest.
