So, yeah, I managed to get this fun flat on a ride yesterday. As far as I can tell (not very far, I'm a newbie), the rim and tire look fine, but the inner tube and the stem seem to have come apart from each other, which obviously leaves a nice big hole in the inner tube.

I'm hoping to eventually use the bike as my main commuter vehicle, so I'm trying to figure out exactly what went wrong, and how not to run into this particular trouble again. My (stupid newbie) guess is that this indicates there was too much air in the tube... is that a good guess? Or can this flat happen for other reasons? Because the stem is on the inside of the wheel, I'm not sure the terrain would have anything to do with it.

As an added bonus question, since I'll be picking up a replacement soon, what sort of tubes do you recommend? And does rider weight have any bearing on the sort of tubes to buy?

Thanks in advance!

Just wondered if people who cycle a lot, or use an exercise bike get more problems with their back muscles than people who don't?

I had a break of two years from cycling and during that time I never put my back out or anything, but I have been cycling regularly these past 6 months and my back muscles are giving me trouble again.

Any advice on how to prevent back strains? Any help would be appreciated! :o)

I have lots of aluminum bicycle parts. I buy yard sale bikes and restore them as a hobby. Meny of these bikes suffer from neglect, being left out in the rain etc... Does anyone know how to clean up badly oxidized aluminum parts, and is there anyway to protect highly polished aluminum from oxidization? For instance I have a pair of exspencive Campagnolo hubs, a new old stock pair like mine sold on eBay recently for $300.00, so you can see my dilema. These hubs will be going back on a very nice luged steel frame, that I am restoring for my fleet of classic bicycles. I guess to sum things up I don't want my high dollar hub set to turn into Alkselzer ! Can anyone HELP !

I've recently began riding a road bike 25-30 miles a day (about 2 hours for me). At this intensity, what muscles get worked? I know quads and glutes are primary. I've heard calves, too, but I don't really feel that. I wear riding shoes, so I figure the pulling works my hamstrings. Anything else?

On 26 March 2006 an article was posted on Wikipedia regarding a towable pod house for a bicycle designed by Merrill Ballantyne called a bike pod.

Details at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bike_pod

The link for more information does not work (at least it hasn't for me). The username of the person who originally posted the information is no longer valid on Wikipedia.

I have searched http://www.dogpile.com/ with the phrases:
Merrill Ballantyne
bike pod
bike trailer
bike camper
pod house

I have located lots of interesting information but nothing relevant to the Wikipedia article.

Does anyone have any additional information on this?
