I have three questions:

Can I adjust the gear shifting cables myself, or should I have a pro do it? If I can do it, any suggestions? The gears are not very responsive.

Rusty spokes - should I replace them immediately, when I get around to it, or not worry about it?

The chain catches on itself sometimes (rarely) and seizes up. Is this something I can fix? If I stop pedalling it uncatches, it's just a little scary when it happens.

I love watching OLN, and enjoy listening to their commentary, and think that they do a great job with their coverage of the Tour.

But, every weekend CBS, NBC, ABC, or some other network plays the Tour for an hour or so. They always try to turn the race into some kind of Poetic Melodrama. I can remember when Armstrong was racing. 10 minutes of the coverage would talk about the "majestic mountains" of France, the next 25 minutes would talk about Armstrong's Cancer, and the remainder of the time after commercials (usually a total of 8 minutes) would address the race itself. Why does their coverage have to be so cheesy? Does it really do the sport of professional cycling any justice?

I'm 23. I'm fit. I've got a decent hybrid bike. I can do eight miles in 25 minutes, but wonder if it's reasonable to think I can do that for a long period of time...

Trek's OCLV bikes are the most famous, thanks to Lance, but I know that carbon bikes have been around before. What was the first carbon fiber bike raced in the TdF, and who rode it? Also, if it was a TT bike, when was the first carbon bike for the general stages introduced?

Find this infuriating and sometimes dangerous as a bike rider. Wonder if it could be male pride and/or ignorance but its probably both!!
