Yes, because I believe he would have won his eighth title this year. I honestly think he could have won ten in a row, given his ability, his focus on winning the Tour each year, and his team. However, that noted, I've genuinely enjoyed the 2006 Tour de France without him. There have been a record-tying number of changes in the person who wears the yellow jersey; and there is likely to be at least one more before the Tour ends. Floyd Landis, an American, has been very competitive despite a bum hip and has worn the yellow jersey on two separate occasions. Sadly, he cracked today and will probably not recover to finish on the podium in Paris. Levi Leipheimer, another American, has recovered from a disappointing time trial performance in the early stages of the race and appears headed for a top-ten finish. Many new faces have emerged from Lance's shadow to make this year's tour one of the most exciting in recent memory. I encourage you to check out the televised coverage on OLN or at least visit one of the sites below.

I would want him to be in this year's TdF if it had featured all the top riders. But with Ivan Basso and Jan Ullrich, his main rival, both pulled from the race this year, it would have been a field that he would had decimated. With those two, Basso and Ullrich, it would have been an epic battle. And no, Soccerloverls, Lance is not too old to do the tour. He had two more good runs if not three more. That is how strong he is.

Everyone would love to see him again even if he doesn't win. His retire has taken the exciting factor out of it. They will show the highlight on Sportscenter every morning and I'll just be like 'who cares'. Last year, every American would be watching it live cheering him on. I do agree that he is probably too old. Also, does ANYONE know who is winning or what country he's from without looking it up right now? I really don't think so.

It was exciting while he was in the Tour De France, but it is time for something new. Everyone athlete has their time, and his time has passed and it's time for a new era of riders.
