I think that you need to consider the type of riding you will do. A mountain bike will look cool, but if you are riding on streets, skinny tires can go faster.

The most important thing is to buy a bike that fits you, and is the highest quality frame that you can afford. I think that you will probably be happiest with a bike that makes YOU look good. Even the coolest looking bike will make you feel silly if you are always trying to catch up.

In general, the best thing to do 1st off is to decide what it is you want to use the bike for. This will dictate largely the type of bike and what accessories you need.

There are legal requirements which differ around the globe, for things such as red reflectors at the back, lights etc. If you do buy a set of lights - go for the LED types as the batteries do last longer. If you are not going to use the bike off road and don't want to get dirty clothes etc, consider one with a chain guard and a full set of mud guards.

Make sure that if you are young and still growing the frame and fitments can be adjusted to last you a while.

If you are going to carry things, use panniers and bags secured to the frame to keep the centre of gravity low - do not use a back pack.

The number of gears, suspension, seatposts or adjustable forks will be dictated by the type of bike, your budget and to some degree fashion. I made sure my bike had a really comfortable seat, and I also bought a Gel cover to improve it further.

Don't forget to buy a really good lock and chain or something similar, as you don't want to go to all this trouble and then have it stolen.

1}do you realy want 2 wheels or do you want 3
2}do you want motor or pedals
3}do you want a tandem if so will you be giving a backer
{2 people on 1 seat}
4}is it worth the effort.

My address as I have plenty that could be suitable, some with two wheels some with none at all and they are driving my wife to distraction as all I seem to do is muck about with them.

What would you prefer, then ask yourself what is your budget and what kind of bike would match your technical skill level and experience.

Think you need to add a bit more detail -

- what would you use it for?
- how old are you?
- recreation, racing, mtb, commuting?
- How big are you?
