A two part question. Was the heavyweight division in the 1970's the golden era of the heavyweights? Think of the depth/talent that division had before answering. Do you believe boxing benefited because of how deep the talent was in the heavyweight division in the 1970's? I am of the opinion that boxing fed off the momentum/interest those men generated well into the 80's. In my opinion boxing was never better than it was during the 70's and 80's.The heavyweight division captures the interest of the casual fan and boxing feeds off that momentum.

I have been a long time boxing fan and I am becoming an avid UFC fan. Personally I love both boxing and the UFC, I'm tired of the media comparing the two sports. It's true they are both combat sports but they are vastly different.

I would argue that the UFC exposure is good for boxing and it's fans. The popularity of the UFC will make boxing promoters give fans more of the fights they want and they'll have to make more fights available on cable instead of pay per view. The mainstream coverage of UFC has also increased the mainstream coverage for boxing. In the end the growth of either sport is good for both.

What do you think?

I was watching the UFC Liddell-Jackson fight tongiht and during the undercard matches as well as the main event, before the fight the trainers were putting this gel stuff that was clear on the faces of the fighters (under the eyes, on the forehead). They do it in boxing too. What is it and why do they do that?

I was a huge Roy Jones Jr. fan, so having said that I noticed that around the time there was the BALCO scandal. Roy Jones Jr had a SHARP decline in performance! His body even looked a bit softer! I have been going to weight lifting gyms for the past 15 yrs, and have only noticed SHARP declines like that on steroid users! I hope he was not taking anything! I love boxing and would hate to see a similar scandal like what happend in baseball.

REMEMber that not all names in the BaLCO scandal where made public! The only boxing name I heard was SUgar Shane Moseley! By the way too was taken down a notch after the scandal! He was lb for lb one of the best at the time.

I know in a lot of peoples eyes Roy Jones could do no wrong, but can we really trust atheletes nowadays when there is so much money on the line?

I dont want reasons why Ali won and am not belittling his victory, but was wondering if there was any other evidence for poisoning? Who would gain from Ali's Victory and was there any organised crime connections?

Recent articles quoted Mayweather can knock out The Pacman in 3 rounds. If they battle just imagine the gazillion dollars it will generate. The whole of Asia, will be watching. Pac has followers in Japan, Indonesia etc, Mexico will be curious, they want Pac to loose of course. It can surpass the Floyd vs DelaHoya fight. I'm sure the other fighter will give his best and not afraid to be hurt (Pac) I'm not sure of the other ...
