I was a huge Roy Jones Jr. fan, so having said that I noticed that around the time there was the BALCO scandal. Roy Jones Jr had a SHARP decline in performance! His body even looked a bit softer! I have been going to weight lifting gyms for the past 15 yrs, and have only noticed SHARP declines like that on steroid users! I hope he was not taking anything! I love boxing and would hate to see a similar scandal like what happend in baseball.
REMEMber that not all names in the BaLCO scandal where made public! The only boxing name I heard was SUgar Shane Moseley! By the way too was taken down a notch after the scandal! He was lb for lb one of the best at the time.
I know in a lot of peoples eyes Roy Jones could do no wrong, but can we really trust atheletes nowadays when there is so much money on the line?

Another thing I want to mention is that even before he got KOed by Tarver the first time. Roy seemed to have lost his swager. He wasnt confident anymore. Taking stuff can make you SO confident in your abilities! Just ask Barry Bonds!!!!
Remember that in ANY sport the difference between the very best is usually the mental side.

To the guy who mentioned his neck circumference.. I am not really sure if that is a steroid sign. I know if I was going to box someone who could tear my head off I would pay a lot of a attention to my neck!
The signs I know are deformed abs. a "golf ball" like growth on the back of your neck. acne (big time sign is acne on abs)

I have also seen men who have incredible physiques loose a lot of hardness for no apparent reason almost over night! (steroid users) Its almost what happened to Roy. I find it very suspicious. I know very few people know about those drugs like I do. And if they do know they are probably taking them so they do not say much. I have been tempted but for what?

I have long suspected Jones was taking steroids. Just something about him doesn't add up (Like Barry Bond's globe-sized head).

I think Roy's decline was much sharper, because he went from the absolute top of the sport to basically the worst of his career in 1 year. It has been a while since the 1st Tarver loss, but he hasn't been that active, and I don't think that, past the Johnson fight, he has looked "terrible" in the ring, just not what he was (excluding his last fight). I think his 2nd part has been 90% exhibition tour, and I don't think anyone truly believed he could recapture his past glory because he decline happened basically at the point in his career when it should have. Tyson's 2nd and 3rd acts were longer and probably "worse" because he went down, went to jail and basically just stayed down until he retired - also, there was always some sense that Tyson would be rejuvinated and return to his previous form; he basically fell off so early in his career that he had the chance to be great again, he just didn't. I think Tyson's 2nd (and 3rd) part was worse because of what it could have been.

Roy used, he did a couple of cycles to make weight for the Ruiz fight.
Basically...with proper diet and working out (meaning resistance)...you can usually expect about five pounds of lean muscle per year.
Roy put on twenty in three months.
He also likely used GH because of the growth in his neck circumference.
Boxing, because of the constant aerobic conditioning...doesnt allow for that kind of growth. Hopkins did it by coming off being a vegetarian. But he ccouldnt do it again.

Roy had to be on something! You make a lot sense. I think thats why not too many people are really trying to debate what your saying. Peace
p.s. why do folks believe they actually know Roy? Our heroes let us down all the time, they are only human. We sometimes foget that.

Roy is the best of all time but he has lost two fights in a row. Honestly he has been good since moving up in the weight classes.

Never That! Roy is the type of fighter where ability has came naturally and a full dedication of training. His age and the competition had just caught up to him.

YIKES!!!!!!!!!, no Roy is not a drug user. as for your comment about him looking soft?!!!
I wish I could look soft like he did in his 3rd fight with Tarver.
My goodness, no Roy is clean.
Roy decline has more to do with building muscle with one of the greatest fitness trainers of our time Mackie Shilestone, to a effective 199 pounds vs. John Ruiz, then losing 25 pounds of muscle. That's where the decline, as well he begin to age, reflexes slower....
Roy Jones is what the best of boxing has to offer...
