When hearing of teams giving up prospects you always hear people saying that they should not give up Player "X" because he "could be the next (insert HOF player here)". But the team is giving up the player for a once in a lifetime talent like say Santana or a player at the top of their game like Sabathia. I always look at it that I would rather have a prvoen player over a "potential" guy. Look at the history of players that are "for sure HOF" when coming into the league...JD Drew, Gregg Jefferies, Jason Isrighausen, Bill Pulsipher...the list goes on and on!

Pick one for each. Pick the team who you think has sold the most hats and the team that really never sells any hats.

It's pretty obvious this ownership don't care less about making a winning team. To think they won 2 World Series & still nobody cares for them. MLB really needs to start getting rid of owners who only care about putting money in their own pockets & just allow owners who really do care about making their team better & really do care about what their fanbase thinks.

The pitching staff is old. and thats being kind. Schmidt has seen better days,Lowe is a .500 pitcher now,who knows if Randy Wolf will pitch ever again and Mark Hendrickson sucks out loud. The dodgers need someone to go along with Billingsley,Brad Penny, and Eric Slultz. Santana would fit great in that pitchers ballpark!I'm willing to trade Matt Kemp or Eithier to get this young lion!

I know the Tigers made a lot of noise already by reeling in a couple of Big Fish (pun intended) but looking at the rotations I dont see how Detroit can even fathom standing up to Boston in a 7 game series, and this assuming the Soxes don't land Santana. For the record I'm a Yankee fan, but Boston is just too good to put the preseason ring on anyone else's finger.

It seems miami does not care for baseball.
Talent would be less diluted.
Other teams would not have to make profits for them.

do you think that there is a major problem with the Minnesota Twins? i've gotten the feeling in recent years that minnesota is little more than a rearing pond for talented ball players. There has been MANY top notch atheletes to come through our system, from farm teams to the majors, all to be traded or lost to free agency just when they reach full potential. can anyone explain why in a way that makes sense? how can we compete if our talent is eleminated just when it starts to show?

Why should teams that actually care about their team share their profits, while teams that don't give a flying squash just pocket their money?

In 2006 they collected $31 million in revenue sharing, spent only $15 million on salary and made a profit of $41 Million. Their payroll for next season looks like it will be less than $9 million at this point. Should the owners be allowed to just pocket money instead of putting it into a new stadium or use it to get some players?

I know that last weekend the Chicago White Sox gave thier fans a rare chance for you the fans, to see both the visitors clubhouse, and the Chicago White Sox clubhouse, where they hand things for sale. But here is a question for Chicago White Sox fans, did you go to the Chicago White Sox sale, if so why did you go? Did you buy any idems they have for sale, and if so what did you buy, and why did you buy it? How did you know where to go, where thier signs up? I know also that Chris Rongey was in the vistor's clubhouse broadcasthing a special 2 hour edition of Chicago White Sox weekly last Saturday, did you go there, during the 2 hours that he was broacasting live, did you go to the vistor's clubhouse to see him live on the air, why or why not?

Do you think that once again they will come out ahead in this deal while saving millions in payroll? If so, then why aren't more teams trying this approach?

or trade for top players in their prime ...which to me shows that they are really serious about winning championships? and why on the other hand do other baseball teams claim to want to win championships, are in a big attendance market and make a lot of money, but never get the top available talent but would rather sign say a 32 year old aging outfielder who is on the decline for a 5 year contract, while we all know full well that more than likely his production will be dropping off significantly in the next couple of years and that he may be retiring before his contract is up?
To me, even though you pay more with the first option, but you actually get way more for your money in term of production, longevity, efficiency of contracts, and attendance draw.

Why be relatively cheap and buy a short term lemon when you can spend a bit more and get the real deal that will last a long time and will get your fan base excited and spending more?

I would like to know if (in your opinion, but please have some evidence to back it up) there has ever been a better "pre-ranked" overall hitting lineup than the Tigers have right now.

When I say "pre-ranked" I mean a lineup based on career stats and projections for the upcoming year.

They must be an MLB team (past or present, but they have to be from the modern era: 1900 and later) and NO All-Star teams.

Here is the Tigers hitting lineup (assuming the trade with the Marlins goes through):

Granderson
Polanco
M. Cabrera
Magglio
Sheffield
Guillen
Renteria
Pudge
Inge or J. Jones

Not necessarily in that order, but for the most part they are.

I'd say that lineup is one of the best "pre-ranked" offenses in recent times.

Who do you have as the best? All answers accepted AND bashing of other answers will not be tolerated.

Thanks!
