The pitching staff is old. and thats being kind. Schmidt has seen better days,Lowe is a .500 pitcher now,who knows if Randy Wolf will pitch ever again and Mark Hendrickson sucks out loud. The dodgers need someone to go along with Billingsley,Brad Penny, and Eric Slultz. Santana would fit great in that pitchers ballpark!I'm willing to trade Matt Kemp or Eithier to get this young lion!

Personally, I don't think Santana is worth it at the moment. His no trade clause makes him too expensive. The Dodgers need one more starter for their rotation and a 3rd baseman, but the former is more important right now. It's looking better for the Dodgers now that they've got Andruw Jones, they can use Ethier or Kemp as a bargaining chip. Seeing as how the O's could use an outfielder I think they should go after Bedard.

While the Dodgers have shown interest and are still in pursuit of Santana- the price may be too high. It is not just about the prospects they have to give up- but it's about the amount of money they would have to pay him. He's looking for a 6 yr $150 million contract.

Santana is great right now but will he be in years 4-6 of the contract???

They may be able to get a Dan Haren or a Erik Bedard at a lower price and they still have some good pitching prospects that can develop over the next several years. They are also pursuing a Japanese pitcher right now who could be another starter- so perhaps if they land him- who knows maybe they could get Santana and have one of the best starting 5 in baseball (esp. if Schmidt could come back healthy).

Keep in mind too that the Dodgers still need to get a 3B and if Jeff Kent doesn't come back maybe another bat.

Go Dodger Blue!

For all practical purposes, the Dodgers appear to be the "Dark Horse" in the Santana Derby. Yanks have called Pohlad's bluff, Red Sox still won't give Twins what they want, and now supposedly, the Twins realized that their best offer was the one from the Yanks so they are trying to get them back into negotiations.

All of this is going to damage Santana's value in the long run. The team to watch out for as far as getting him is concerned is the Mets. Look for them and possibly the Dodgers to put something major on the table to land the big fish.

As of this evening, December 5, 2007, it looks like the Dodgers have acquired Andruw Jones, meaning that one of their outfielders, likely Matt Kemp, could now be trade bait. The potential for a Santana trade to LA is greater than before!

They ARE in the running for Santana. It just isn't talked about as much. They are considered 3rd to the Yanks and Sox, but w/ the Yanks apparently not wanting to deal anymore they move up to 2nd. The Mets are also throwing their hat in the ring.
