I think the dollar amount totaled last year spent on Dice-K (total $103Million) between the Red Sox and the Seibu Lions really sparked financial opportunity and great interest amongst the Japenese players. Long story short, I do think Kosuke Fukudome will cross over seas and come to the U.S. and play in the MLB.

The hot buzz a while back was that the Cubs were going after Kaz Matsui, in order to lure Fukudome to Wrigley. Since that deal fell through I would imagine that if he does decide to come to MLB that he's going to play where there is a Japanese fellow teammate. Seattle is one possibility with Ichiro still there and possible Houston, though I don't think they need a 31 year old in that outfield. Being a left handed power hitter, he would have fit nicely in Wrigley, but I doubt that will happen now.
SI.com quoted him as follows:
"I'd like to see what kind of interest I get," he said. "We'll see where this goes" regarding his declaration for free agency.

He said he was coming to the US to play MLB and I believe it will be with the Mariners or Cubs. He is an outfielder that has some power and could be about the equivalent of Hideki Matusi. The only downside is that he will be 31 years old when the season starts but still should have several good years left in him.

It is too soon to know that for sure. But I will leave that up to him, if he wants to leave Japan to come to the United States to play baseball for MLB, but most likely if he does, he will be put in the minors first, before he makes his major league debut.
