Refer to my last question, "Did I go too far" for background. In response to what I did, the bishop of the local ward, pulled my wife aside at church, and basically told her that they would be cutting contact with her, except when she is at church. No one will visit her at our house, and she will not have visiting teachers. She tried to explain, that as long as they weren't there to visit me, it wouldn't be a problem, but he didn't care. He basically said, as long as she is with me, she will get no contact or help from the church except on Sundays. She will probably be released from her calling as well. Does anyone else think they are being childish? My wife feels like they are abandoning her just because I left the church, and don't want contact now.

I am of course referring to Matthew 17:1-6, Luke 9:12-15, Mark 9:2-8. In these verses, Moses and Elijah appear, and Jesus converses with them. Apparently, the transfiguration was important enough that three of the four Gospel writers included the event.

Were Peter, James, and John hallucinating or dreaming, or did the transfiguration of Jesus, with Moses and Elijah actually appearing, really happen?

If you believe the latter, why is it so difficult to believe that Mother Mary might have also appeared to her spiritual sons and daughters?

If you are not a believer in God's bible please be respectful and let those who do believe answer.

In Romans it talks about the elect going to heaven. Do you feel that the elect are all who have accepted Christ and will go to heaven. Or do you feel that only yhe Elect will be able to accpet Christ.

Whether you are Christian, Jewish, Islamic, atheist, pagan, etc, I want to know what you would do in the following two situations. Please explain why. Also, state your religion, so that we can compare the mindsets of different ideologies:

1) You are standing on a small bridge over looking a railway. You see behind you a train heading towards you, full of people. In front of you the track splits. One direction leads towards a sink hole that has opened and that will certainly kill most if not everyone aboard. The opposite direction is safer, but a single person is standing on the tracks and will certainly be hit and killed if the track is diverted towards him. The switch to change tracks is right next to you.

Do you...

a) Allow the train to fall into the sink hole killing everyone on board.
b) Switch the track so that only the single person gets killed.

2) You are standing on a small bridge over looking a railway. You see behind you a train heading towards you, full

Seriously now.

Who wants to be in a forum where level 7 users, users that have obviously given hundreds or thousands of Best Answers, get deleted without even being given a reason?

What is the point of such a forum? Why bother even remotely trying to provide others with a valid answer anymore? Why be in this section? Really now.

My wife's church has over 10,000 members and is raising 200 million to pay for a new church. Do you know how many homes can be built for that amount of money? This type of thing isn't limited to my wife's church, "building funds" have become common in many of today's churches, in addition to tithes, offerings, prayer offerings, and the multitude of different ministry offerings. Many of these pastors have homes nicer than I do (and I am by no means without means).

The way I see it, there is no reason for a pastor to have a private plane or a church building worth more than 1 million (despite the size of the congregation) as long as there is even ONE person in his community that is without food and shelter. There is no reason for a person who gets paid from the contributions of others to have fine clothes when people in his/her community can't afford decent clothes.

I know that some churches do some charity work, but they are by far the minority. Where is the money going?

The flaming and stupid questions have really killed what could be a good place to disguss beliefs and ideas.

Atheist belong here. They have many valid points and some time very insightful ideas into religion.

Religious people belong here. Many of them can be intelligent and have some really decent ideas on theology.

What is not needed (Though I am sure I'll get some) Is flames and idiot reponses from either side

Yes I am sure it is fun to make all these silly comments but seriously is any one really up for real discussion and debate?

I ask this because it seems if a person doesn't know how to love one's self or that love is not a pure love or the person has a different definition of love than their neighbors then it follows that it might be almost impossible to love your neighbor as yourself. Couldn't it be twisted into something extremely selfish even violent in subtle or gross ways? Thoughts? Thank you.

Re-asking a stolen question....

"I know this may sound like a truly stupid question, and for that I apologize in advance, but I'd appreciate it if you'd indulge me.

I'm an agnostic theist. I know there is no evidence for God, etc., but I do have that sense that so many theists refer to that there is something greater. Christians call it 'knowing in their heart,' or the Holy Spirit entering them of having Jesus in their hearts. I just call it a sense that there *is* something more. It may not be 'supernatural' or anything... it could just be a collective consciousness... but whatever it is, I call it God and believe in it despite the lack of evidence.

Many atheists point out that such feelings could very easily be the result of brain chemistry or such things or even mental illness.

I was just asking myself why I believe in God even though I agree with you guys on evidence requirements, etc. and the answer I came up with is this sense that God exists.....
