Something tells me that the true atheists have not had to go through this situation. When the time comes that they are at their lowest, I think they'll see.

Well, gee, all-knowing, superior, Christian, I guess I just talk to myself. Because, without God, I'm SOOOO lonely.
I guess you assume that because I don't talk to your God and have no religion as a crutch, that I have nobody. Well, let me fill you in. Atheists have friends, family, lovers, and health care professionals. Do you have someone other than your imaginary friend you call Jesus? Times don't usually get that bad for me because I focus on the here and now and don't worry about the afterlife and saving others from "damnation". If I encounter problems, I look for help from people closest to me. People that can talk back and actually help me.
Your views are sad and silly

I don't talk to anyone when I'm alone. I write in a journal or go blow off some steam with a punching bag, but if there's no one to talk to....I don't talk.
EDIT: Mel, many of us HAVE gone through very difficult situations alone. The fact that we didn't need your god to get through them does not negate anything.

When I'm alone, I don't talk, unless I take a verbal-mental note. Hence the being alone. When things are bad, I have friends. you know, people who like me, and i like- usually willing to help.

I don't talk to anyone if I'm alone and times are bad. I reflect. Sometimes I'll go to work. I don't talk to anyone when I'm alone, not even myself.

This is gonna make me sound a bit crazy to some people but...
I talk to myself. I sit and meditate, concentrate on my breathing and allow my thoughts and emotions to pass. Acknowledge them and let them go.
If that doesn't work I call my best friend or my mom, sometimes it's just good to talk about things to someone who will listen without judgement.

Myself? Which is all prayer really is anyways.
I just don't pretend otherwise.
However, in this wonderfully technologically connected world, who is ever really alone? I have four IM connections, my cell phone, my email, multiple chat rooms. I have family and friends I can contact any time day or night.
When am I ever truly alone?

Myself. Without muttering to myself like I'm digging through trashcans, naturally.
*shrug* Works for me. But then I'm not in such a position very often at all.

I generally talk to other people. If I have no one then I do things that make me feel better, like work out, write, listen to music.

Is God your invisible buddy?
I grew out of that around the same time I stopped believing in Santa, Tooth Fairy and Easter Bunny.

That's amazing. Do you really find that an important factor?
Well, sorry - I guess atheists just suck it up and try to do something about it. Or maybe take drugs. It works for me.
