The Merriam-Webster defines "religion" as:
- : the service and worship of God or the supernatural: commitment or devotion to religious faith or observance
- : a personal set or institutionalized system of religious attitudes, beliefs, and practices

When you have an institutionalized system of religious attitudes and beliefs that promote agendas of hate, violence and intolerance you then have a bad meaning for the word: religion.

Religion like guns don’t kill people. People kill people, some just use religion as the excuse and the gun as a tool.

Many of us have come to view religion as a bad word because it represent the excuse for so many of the things that are wrong with this world.

As John Lennon sang "Imagine no religion.."

I'm a Methodist and this year we have to go through confirmation, to accept the faith as our own. The thing is, I'm having a hard time believing in God, or that anything in the Bible ever happened. I really don't want to do this because at the end, we have to stand up in front of the church and declare our faith. My parents don't know. I was going to tell them, but then my mom told me, "Oh, last year there was this kid who didn't go through confirmation. He had some problems..." How could I tell them then that I didn't want to do it? I just have a hard time believing in some great Creator watching us, and that we go to heaven when we die; I can't believe any of it. What should I do? I really don't want to stand out.

When the "Big Bang" theory was first introduced, MOST scientists rejected it because it had religious IMPLICATIONS. The "Big Bang" theory itself was not religious. Is this the same path that Intelligent Design is taking? It has religious IMPLICATIONS but I.D. itself is not religious.

They say that there are no miracles... I have proofs for you, you athiests. I happen to know an old lady who was healed because I prayed for the Lord to heal her of terrible life threatening pheumoniea. I prayed, and she was better in a week! Praise be to Lord!
Also, I passed my history exam last week, after only studying a little, because I prayed to him, and he granted me a not failing grade! Praise him!
Now, I know you athiests wont be willing to just stop believing your delusions, and I know that evil is in your hearts, but just ask him in, and you will soon feel warmness and love of the Holy Toaster of Antioch.

As if God didnt create us imperfectly.

God gave us laws to help us strive and struggle against evil.

When we fail and falter we then beg for forigiveness and strength to do better.

God created us imperfect so we come back to him with sad hearts in repentance and then struggle against desires and lusts for his sake !

Evil by definition is to break the laws of GOD !

What do you call it when you not only break the laws........ you totally negate them ?

How do you explain this verse when it was revealed in the 7th century, 1000 years before Pascal?? (WHo discovered Atmospheric pressure)

And whomsoever Allah wills to guide, He opens his breast to Islam; and whomsoever He wills to send astray, He makes his breast closed and CONSTRICTED, as if he is CLIMBING to the sky.] (Al-An`am: 125)

10000 ft up= altitude sickness
30,000 ft up=lungs constrict and death shortly follows

This is especially demonstrated by mountain and alpine climbers.

Peace.

Just something to think about =D

Is it not safer to believe in the Lord, and not be burned in hell, than to not believe, and go to hell? Is it not better to take precaution, and believe, rather than not, and burn? The worst that can happen is that there will be nothing when you die, however... If you disbelieve, do yee not know that my Lord and savior, the holy toaster of Antioch will toast you, in eternal crunchyness?

Belief has to be taken on its face and the atheist logic says "there is a correct and incorrect" so if they are right, we are wrong.

An atheist can only hold onto his views if they throw real truth out the window. And the real truth is "we don't know" so if we have to throw "we don't know" out of the window that only leaves "we know" so the atheist and believer both know "something" but that something is that God does, or does not exsist. For either side can think to themselves "Why can't they see it? it is so simple!"

They can't see why we can believe in a God, and we can't see how they cannot believe in a God, but unfortunatly when it comes to this the best we say is that both sides are relative to each other because neither one can accept the real truth in order to be correct.

When you type a question in at Yahoo! Answers and see that it's been asked 7 million times before, isn't it safer to just not ask it yet again, rather than risk the ridicule that will surely be heaped upon you if you do ask?

so it looks like the only collage that will take me is a catholic place. i really want to go, i already have a university offer (conditional on good A level results) so i really need this. but seriously mass, every morning, and compulsary religous studies. i dont have to pretend to be catholic or anything, they have to take on 20% non-catholics, but there will be a lot of scarey people there. i havent given up on other collages, but they never take people from my school. do you think i should go? any suggestions to make it less weird? im pritty anti a lot of the catholic beliefs.

"Behold, I will make them of the synagogue of Satan, which say they are Jews, and are not, but do lie; behold, I will make them to come and worship before thy feet, and to know that I have loved thee." (Revelation 3:9)

"Do not think that I [Jesus] have come to abolish the Law (the Old Testament) or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke or a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law (ALL THE LAWS) until everything is accomplished. (Matthew 5:17-18)"

"Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples: 'The teachers of the law and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat. So you must obey them and do EVERYTHING they tell you. But do not do what they do, for they do not practice what they preach.' (Matthew 23:1-3)"
