How do you explain this verse when it was revealed in the 7th century, 1000 years before Pascal?? (WHo discovered Atmospheric pressure)

And whomsoever Allah wills to guide, He opens his breast to Islam; and whomsoever He wills to send astray, He makes his breast closed and CONSTRICTED, as if he is CLIMBING to the sky.] (Al-An`am: 125)

10000 ft up= altitude sickness
30,000 ft up=lungs constrict and death shortly follows

This is especially demonstrated by mountain and alpine climbers.

Peace.

Just something to think about =D

Seriously? Well I'm sure people climbed mountains before Pascal explained atmospheric pressure. It's not like that pressure didn't exist. People felt it. That's like saying a holy text says things fall, and them claiming that it's divine intervention because Newton figured out gravity only about 500 years ago.

That means some one else felt the atmospheric pressure change as well. Pascal did not discover atmospheric pressure, it's not like it was just not there before Pascal.

I'm pretty sure everyone who has every climbed up a mountain has felt something different. You don't need to know what it is to know it's there.

The aya (verse) that you quote is about the importance of having an open heart and mind. The Creator will guide those whose heart is open to guidance.
There is much scientific information in The Qur'an which was only found out by humanity within the last few decades. The Qur'an was revealed more than fourteen hundred years ago, yet much of the scientific information that is in it was only discovered the last fifty years. One of the examples is how The Qur'an describes the development of the human fetus in the uterus.

Thanks for giving us something to think about.... lol

Trust me you don;t want to get into a discussion about logic and science - presumably you are a theist (Islamic I guess) - well we (athiests) dont blindly believe in anything - give us the evidence and we will trust our logic. Which is exactly what Isalmic scholars were rightly famed for long before Pascal. Presumably you think that they were too stupid to have worked out anything as atmospheric pressure?

Unfortunately if you do a little research into your own heritage, the Islamic scholars drew on many traditions of sicence and were well versed in pressure, temperature etc etc, so alas your wonderful holy book of magic predictions was written long after (and ignores most of) many scientific discoveries we sometimes wrongly attribute to the 18th-21st Centuries.

To the best of my knowledge most of the rest of the mumbo jumbo has no scientific evidence.....

Well you don't think that anyone ever climbed a mountain and told of their experience?

And FYI: It says the Sun sets in a muddy spring too.

18:86 Till, when he reached the setting-place of the sun, he found it setting in a muddy spring, and found a people thereabout. We said: O Dhu'l-Qarneyn! Either punish or show them kindness.

How about the passage in the Qur'an that says the Sun sets in a muddy river?

The Qur'an verse that says semen comes from our spine and backbone?

i think that the writer of this had experience in mountain climbing, and his experience taught him that climbing a mountain can give you a closed and constricted breast.

Opening and closing his breast sounds more like Sci-Fi not Science.
