Both religion and atheism require a leap of faith because there is no damning evidence of a God or higher power, and there is no damning evidence of a lack of God. Isn't this ironic because most atheists base their beliefs on science and evidence and frown on leaps of faith?

People often comment about their beliefs being disrespected, and I wonder why they think their beliefs should be shielded from criticism. Why should religion get a "get out of ridicule free" card? Granted, we should attempt to show some respect to people, but why are beliefs off limits?

What could churches be doing to draw more people to faith in God? Should churches get involved in LGBT issues? Does the Bible still matter (from your perspective)?

Do you attend church services? Why or why not?

What would it take to get you to start attending (if you were willing, just pretend)?

I'm not sure if I would put a question on this forum that I needed a serious personal spiritual based answer about.

Why is it that in most of the other forums people's questions are taken seriously, but here you get trashed and bashed when you ask serious personal spiritual based questions?

I've been spending to much time on R&S. I like the contacts I've made here, and would like to say in touch. I've opened up my 360 blog, and hope to hear from you, from time to time, as you will from me.

Oh, so I am following the rules, What would Jesus think?

I'm not saying all atheists do that, but here on yahoo answers there seem to be hundreds of christian-bashing questions, and also questions lambasting religion in general.
There are hundreds of questions asked by atheists who are pretending to be christians to make christians look bad.
Do you "evangelical atheists" (that's what i like to call radical atheists who never respect other poeple's beliefs) really think you look so much better than christians when you ask christian-bashing (and religion-bashing) questions? Don't you realize that those questions reflect poorly on atheists? And the evangelical athesists go on and on about how stupid you'd have to be to believe christianity, but somehow they're not smart enough to actually prove they're better than christians by being more respectful and tolerant of those that differ from them.
Don't you evangelical atheists have anything better to do than insult other poeples religions?
I know not all atheists are like this, so no offense.

I just saw pictures this morning of Muslims protesting in England with signs that read "Europe, your 911 is on its way" and "prepare for the real holocaust" and "slay those who insult Islam". And this was supposed to ba a "Religion of Peace Demonstration". I'm sorry, there is nothing peaceful about those signs they were all holding up.

Here is a link where you can see the pics: http://www.snopes.com/photos/politics/muslimprotest.asp

I have a somewhat pantheistic view of God; I believe that God is a manifestation of our own power and potential; we are all gods and goddesses, as are the animals and the trees, etc. I do tarot sometimes, but I don't know if anyone can really know the future. I like the whole Zen idea of living in the moment and not worrying about yesterday or tomorrow, but I'm just not really sure what religion I am. I would like some help figuring it out, and if you are a fundamentalist Christian who thinks I am going to hell, please keep it to yourself. Thanks!

P.S. I'm 16; not sure whether or not that's relevant.

i'm not that pretty so that doesn't help either. but my school is a very racist towards muslims. they always fine a way to make me feel like hell. i've told my parents but they don't believe me,and just say i want attention. i don't want to tell any of the teachers because if my peers found out, the taunting will just get so much worst.
so i've decided to fight back. i need something to say when someone makes fun of me because of my background, religion, or my scarfs. i need a couple good come back lines
i need to say things that will make them see that i'm not going take it anymore. and i'm not afraid of them. when acually i tremble at the sight of them.

How is it that they will condemn people for being homosexual, getting divorced, having children out of wedlock and premarital sex? Isn't that a bit of a double standard. But it seems you can always make a nice donation to the church and this will all be overlooked. Somebody please explain that to me. The whole religion sounds like a pile of sh*t to me. In fact all religion does.

I'm pro-life, but not Christian, and many people have told me that being Pro-Life is a Christian value. I can't find any passages in the Bible that say this. I know Jeremiah 1:5 is used by Christian pro-life people (though I see its in the OT). When reading that passage, I always thought it was saying that god knew your soul before he placed you in a body.

Being Pro-Life has been linked to Christianity commonly, but reading Hosea 9: 11-16, I am confused.

Are there Bible passages in either OT/NT that say abortion is wrong?
Why is being Pro-Life seen most commonly as a Christian value?

We had better prepare to see the worst times that this world has ever seen. In Mat 24 he is addressing believers. The scripture also states that there is a great falling away of the faith that takes place. The fire that is coming to try the world is the same fire that will purify the Body of Christ. The "rapture" and the raising of those who have died in Christ are an almost simultaneous event that will occur (at the last trumpet)at the return of Jesus to set up the millennial kingdom. Be prepared to endure until the end.
The "pretribulation rapture" teaching takes scripture out of context and is comforting to the flesh but we need to hear what the Spirit is saying to the Church.

One last note - If I am wrong and we are taken out before tribulation, I will still be ready. If we have to go through it, will you be prepared?

George and Moses

George W. Bush, in an airport lobby, noticed a man in a long flowing white robe with a long flowing white beard and flowing white hair. The man had a staff in one hand and some stone tablets under the other arm.

George W. approached the man and inquired, "Aren't you Moses."

The man ignored George W. and stared at the ceiling.

George W. positioned himself more directly in the man's view and asked again, "Aren't you Moses".

The man continued to peruse the ceiling.

George W. tugged at the man's sleeve and asked once again, "Aren't you Moses".

The man finally responded in an irritated voice, "Yes I am".

George W. asked him why he was so uppity and the man replied, "The last time a bush spoke to me I ended up spending forty years in the wilderness".
