Most of us are belonging to particular religion because of an accident called birth. Religion needs understanding whch needs some input. Each religion talks about different GODs. It is confusing. !!

Three little boys were concerned
because they couldn't get anyone to play with them.
They decided it was because they had not been Baptized
and didn't go to Sunday School.

So they went to the nearest Church.

But, only the janitor was there.

One little boy said,
"We need to be baptized
because no one will come out and play with us.
Will you baptize us?"
"Sure," said the janitor.

He took them into the bathroom
and dunked their little heads in the toilet bowl,
one at a time.
Then he said, "You are now Baptized!".

" When they got outside,
one of them asked,
"What religion do you think we are?"

The oldest one said,

"We're not Kathlick, because they pour the water on you."
"We're not Babtis, because they dunk all of you in the water."
"We're not Methdiss, because they just sprinkle water on you."

The littlest one said,
"Didn't you smell that water!"

They all joined in asking,
"Yeah! What do you think that means?"

"I think it means we're Pisscopailians

I work with a girl who adamently says she is not allowed by her religion (Mormonism) to work on Sundays or do literally anything at all on that day other than going to church and then coming home. Yet every Sunday, I see her (and other coworkers who are devout Mormons) at work having a grand time. I also happen to be related to several Mormons, many of whom have requirements to be at work on Sundays, either every week or simply on occasion, and none of them have ever once mentioned such requirements/restrictions due to religion. My grandpa for example is a real estate agent and Sunday is a vital day for home buyers and sellers.

Is that girl making up her own religious rules and calling it Mormonism while not practicing what she preaches or is this really how things work?

trust in me, just in me
close your eyes, and trust in me

you will sleep, safe and sound
knowing I, am around

slip into silent slumber
sail on a silver mist

slowly but surely your senses will cease - to resist

Does anybody use it in their prayer/meditation/whatever regularly?
I mean, it's used in India, it's mentioned often in the bible, it's used by Native Americans and many native tribes around the world.
I've read that smoke allows us to see the demension of the spirit world.
Does anybody else feel it helps make things otherworldly during their worship times?

Now that Christians are training their kids to challenge their teachers about evolution and the age of the earth etc, do you think teachers should be trained to intellectually humiliate these students in front of their peers?

My first reaction is no, but then it really is their parents who are using them for political eands and in way that can be damaging to the ducation received by other students. So perhaps if these students were made to look like ignorant fools, their parents wouldn't be so eager to use them as weapons.

From what I've heard even if you're brainwashed not to believe in Jesus, you still go to Hell because there's no such thing as brainwashing and you're rejecting Christ.

From Scientific American:

It examined 1,800 patients undergoing heart-bypass surgery. On the eve of the operations, church groups began two weeks of praying for one set of patients. Each recipient had a praying contingent of about 70, none of whom knew the patient personally. The study found no differences in survival or complication rates compared with those who did not receive prayers. The only statistically significant blip appeared in a subgroup of patients who were prayed for and knew it. They experienced a higher rate of postsurgical heart arrhythmias (59 versus 52 percent of unaware subjects).

Some people said, in response to one of the last questions, that god answers all prayers, and sometimes the answer is no. These people weren't praying to win the lottery - they were praying to live a little bit longer, to not suffer more than they have already suffered. Why would god say no to every single one, and punish the ones who knew it?

I just asked the question in Yahoo Answers, "If you do not believe in God, why do you get so angry at people believing you will go to hell?" Most of the people who answered seem to read the question "angry at people telling you you will go". Do you think this was a subconscious "dodge" of the question? What is your theory?

The Gospel of St Matthew gives one genealogy of Jesus Christ and that of Luke gives another. From King David to the father of Joseph, they are totally different. What is more, they then both go through Joseph, who if you believe in the virgin birth, wasn't Jesus' father at all! Doesn't all the business about 'Son of David' and 'King of the Jews' depend on his being the son of Joseph?
Please don't tell me 'God is unsearchable' etc - that's just a cop-out.

Who here doesn't need a book to know the divine? Who here can just be in the ocean, or under a tree, or on the grass looking up at the sky, and it just clicks for them?
That's what's happened to me, and everythings just made sense since that point. I think the truth is in the wind.
I don't care if you are religious or not, I think this experience defies religion. Maybe it even helped you understand yours more.
Anyone?

If a man goes to the doctors to get an opperation and the doctors says they have a 50/50 chance of making it out alive, the number dont change if the person prays.
So
Do you thing prayer really works, dont give a personal example because that could be a one time thing( like hitting the lottery). I want to see a mathimatical proof of this.

The fact is, that when the war started, the vast majority of Americans were overwhelmingly in favor of the war-- including most Congressman (Democrats too)-- despite the protestations of the rest of the world. The only reason they want to leave now is because the War is costing American money, and more importantly, American lives. The US is basically going to quit because it knows they it win. But do the Americans have a right to leave? After costing Iraq hundreds of thousands of lives and pushing it to the brink of civil war, doesn't the US have a moral obligation to fix the mess that it has created (especially considering that the US put Saddam in power in the first place)? Or should the US just leave, like losers, and essentially plunge Iraq and the entire Middle East (and hence, eventually the world) into chaos? Iraq is your fault America-- stop trying to turn your back and fix it.

Is this correct? It does not matter how much you pressure non-Christians, they will go to Hell whether or not you intervened in their lives.

So how is it fair for an atheists in a 99% Christian community to be converted and go to Heaven yet you have people in places where it is 99% Muslim and they don't convert to Christianity and go to Hell? The playing ground is grossly uneven. Surely you will the Muslim is at a disadvantage. To him, Christianity is foreign and how many of you have honestly opened up to a foreign religion?

It seems to me that an atheist devoted to upsetting christians could do it much more readily than a christian trying to upset an atheist.

I mean there are all kinds of Jesus jokes you could pull out if you really wanted to. Heck, I know a Jesus joke that I'm even afraid to repeat (although I have done it twice).
