Are you free from any belief-label? Can a religious person be a free-thinker?

If one were to work their backsides off to right a wrong that they did, would they get those certain things back to them like the ability to sing when at one time they swore to never sing again.

Because of all the advances in modern science, we know now how early a heart beats (at 5 weeks gestation) and how quickly the cells develop within an embryo.

Before these things came to light, women were told that the pregnancy they were terminating was just a blob of lifeless tissue. Doctors were satisfied giving this answer because that is all we knew about the embryo at the time.

Do you think that Science has actually made it more difficult for those who believe in pro-choice due to the astounding things we know about life in the womans womb?

Or do you think it makes it easier for a woman and doctor to terminate a pregnancy knowing these things?

*I am curious after having watched Discovery Channels series "In the Womb"*

Yesterday i did a meditation to forgive, i wanted to forgive my Dad for all he's done to my family. I did the meditation and wasn't sure how long it would take, or even if it would work. After about two minutes of thinking of the past i started getting sad, i said the lines about forgiving over and over. I cried thinking of all the past hurts and let all my emotions out. After a little while i was still crying but not because of the hurt, because i realised how much i miss my dad and how much i love him. I realised then i had forgiven him.

I called him and had the best conversation i have ever had with him, just a chat like daughters and fathers should. And i'm so glad i forgave him!

Who have you forgiven or who should you forgive. If you have forgiven someone was it worth it??

And btw, when i was Christian i prayed to God to help me forgive, but it never worked - with meditation it worked for me straight away. -just thought i'd add that in :)

Would you say that modern physics models of the world (quantum mechanics, string theory, the holographic paradigm...) support the possibility of so-called paranormal phenomena (telepathy, psychokinesis etc) or discount them? Also, for the really brave, what about spirituality in general and the possibility of divine?

Obviously I'd like people who actually know about the subject to comment, but if you're going to insist, at least first watch the PBS documentary "The Elegant Universe", hosted by physicist Brian Greene:
http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/elegant/

Also take a look at at the "double slit experiment", which you can find here: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-4237751840526284618

You could also watch "What the bleep do we know?" which, while perhaps a bit less objective about the matter, still raises some very interesting points.

PS. I'm not looking for the best answer I agree with. 10 points to the best argument EITHER way. We're debating here, not arguing.

Come on youre not fooling anyone! christianity was made just to anger the Jews, and even the Jews have reasons based on OT showing that Jesus was NOT the messiah.

(1500 is a low-ball estimate based on American Christian denominations only, worldwide the number may be MUCH higher! While an agnostic myself, I strongly agree with most of what "Christ" allegedly taught, but am baffled that His followers have so much to disagree about among each other! )

In todays society, do we really need religion. That is to say, do we still feel guilty for missing church, or has it become mundane and outdated. Does church still have meaning, or is it viewed as having little to do with actual worship? Does not going to church make you less religious.
Basically one question.....is church still necessary?

For full disclosure, I am a recovered christian who walked into the light of atheism several years ago...

One question that always bugged me when I was a christian was the concept of jesus' "suffering" for sins on the cross first developed by Paul.

There are other forms of crucifixion that are much worse including breaking the legs of the victim so they suffocated sooner; being crucified upside down, etc.

There were also much worse ways to be executed in the ancient world (Stoning for one)

Why do you think his crucifixion was so bad that he "took on all the sins of the world"?

Guys...

Common sense tells you when you're doing something wrong. It's called a conscience. You don't need the 10 commandments to tell you that.

We ALL SCREW UP;

We ALL NEED JESUS.

So...please stop asking, "is this a sin?"

Because...if you're hesatating, it PROBABLY IS.

If you're sincere, then that's cool, but realize that IT DOESN'T MATTER, jesus came to fix that!

The Bible is not a rule book.

It's a guide book.

Question:

Preferably non-believers, how do you view the bible in terms of significance... and what kind of message do you think it portrays?

Did you ever believe in the Bible? What made you decide it was wrong? Did anyone influence that decesion?

Is it more logical to think that a single cell was formed on earth because the conditions were exactly right? Or is it more logical to think that an entire entity(God) just poofed out of nowhere?

Provide logic if you disagree with mine or don't even answer!
