A good question--I can't find it either. In fact, Matthew specifically states that no one else knew the flood was coming:

"38For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; 39and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man"

This implies that our commonly held story does not have Biblical basis.

However, there may be another source--the Torah (adapted, losely into the Old Testament) is not the only source of knowledge of ancient Jewish culture. Perhaps the source is from oral commentary, from the Talmud? I don't have the inclination to do that research now, but it would be a good place to look next.

I actually don't recall whether I was taught people were laughing at Noah, but does it even matter whether that is in the Bible or not? Noah was a prophet, and prophets reveal to people the teachings of God, and God has only destroyed cities when they have gotten so wicked there was no reason to keep them, but the prophets have always taught. And, as others have said, Noah just kept on building the boat, regardless of what it may have looked like (and undoubtedly must have taken much faith). And I'm sure, when Noah finished loading the boat, and people were starting to float away, there were people cursing Noah also. But, none of that matters. What matters is that there comes a point when God does not allow His people to live in sin, when they have reached a point of no turning back, and will save those who listen and have faith.

This passage isn't clearly the scripture that people use to show that but Matthew 24:38 does say that the last days it will be as in the days of Noah.

2 Peter 3:3 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,
4 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.
5 For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:
6 Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:
7 But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.

I actually figured that's what she was asking before she posted the details - and got a thumb's down for saying so. I also remember being taught as a child that people laughed at Noah. Guess that was added later for effect.

But wait!! No one would ever think to add things later to the Bible!!

Nowhere in the bible is Noah ridiculed or laughed at. This is just one of many examples where speculation and supposition become accepted as fact. We could only IMAGINE what other people thought of Noah, and Christian theologians tend to lean toward the theme of persecution when supporting information is unavailable. We could also IMAGINE that people had great respect for Noah, based on the information that he was a just and upright person, and were begging to be included on the ark.

Sometimes when reading, you need to have an insight that is only from God. No it doesn't flat out say that, but I'm sure they didn't believe Noah Because they didn't even believe God or would have been obedient to His leaders. Anyway, the reason people didn't believe is because before this, it had never rained before so everyone thought Noah was crazy for building an arc to protect them for something that had never happened before.

Funny but I was taught the same thing too and also couldn't find it. Wasn't there a movie starring John Huston as Noah, and it had people laughing at him during the arks construction?

It is just like the so-called wise men visiting the babe in the manger, yet no Bible says that. Neither does it say they were invited by God, that the Star was sent by God, or that they followed it directly to the Christ child. It first took them to the man who would see the Christ child killed. Is that something God or Satan would do, yet people place a Star on the top of their Christmas trees.

There is a lot of difference between what has become traditional and what it really is.

That is a good question. If you do a deeper study about Noah's ark you realize that he built the ark in a desert and I could imagine there would be scoffing and laughing, but it is true that it does not say it in the bible.

It doesn't say in the Bible that others laughed at Noah. It does say they sought his life (wanted to murder him). But, by knowledge of human nature, it seems logical that some were offended by his preaching and telling them to repent or that they would be destroyed and that some were so offended that they sought to murder him. We can only surmise that others would laugh, mock, and belittle him because of building the biggest ship they had ever seen with no body of water nearby to put it in.
