A person is born. This person is brainwashed by their illiterate, ignorant, and bigoted parents into believing that life is meaningless except to worship an all-powerful hypocrite (who could make the world a better place with a snap of his fingers, but chooses not to) and preaches to the people who enjoy their life about how they must repent for their sins and accept this deity or burn in hell after death, and then this person wastes their entire life preaching and not enjoying their life, thinking they will live in heaven with said deity but when they die they just die, and their whole life was wasted.

Sound familiar? This is why I feel pity for the fundies on here who say "the meaning of life is to serve God and decide whether you get into heaven or hell" or "Jesus is the only thing that matters, everything else is second" and all this is based on a contradictory, ignorant, and prejudiced religion that is 2,000 years old.

Is this sad, or would you enjoy the above life?

Ok, let us be honest. There is plenty of SUPPORTING scientific evidence for both creation and evolution, but absolutely no concrete evidence for either, (and absolutely NO feasable evidence for the big bang). Consider this, though: according to scientific law everything must have an origins, a beginning and an end. In the event there is no creator, no matter how you try to explain it, either the laws of science become flawed and irrelevant, or our universe is unexplainable and should not exist. However, if God is real and created both our universe and our concept of science, this would mean that he existed before science and is not, himself, subject to its laws.

I had the opportunity to take a Philosophy course and the professor and the book addressed religion as mythology. I was surprised at the beginning, but I got to recognize that it makes sense. The Greeks worshiped Zeus. The Romans worshiped Apollo. We now know that Zeus and Apollo are part of the world's mythology. Religion today is like religion in the past. So, what do the experts (philosophers, historians, archeologists) know about religion that we the normal people do not know? Scientists use evidence to prove their theses, so if they say religion today is mythology, what evidence do they have to prove that? Do they know Jesus existed? What do they know about how Christianity started? etc.
What I want to know is if scientists have historical facts and evidence that we the normal people don't know.

Religion is a state that provides comfort to the human mind. So everything is an illusion? I guess so.

Do you think religion today is modern mythology?

"Doth not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him?" 1 Corinthians 11:14

Why do churches always display Jesus as having long hair? Since the Christians claim to have read the Bible front to back, they KNOW that if a man has long hair, he is sinning. So why do they still allow people to draw Jesus with long hair? Either the Christians, the Bible, or both are lying.

Atrophy is a fact of live (everything breaks down to it's simplest element if not maintained). Why, then, would simpler elements like billions of nitrogen, hydrogen, oxygen and carbon molecules combine to form living cells? Yes, one living cell exists of billions of molecules.

I am reading a book set in Kent,England,in the year 1684. And in it,is a couple of religions, called Jacobite, and Huguenot. Is Huguenot something like Amish? Or Quaker? All I know is that it was a strict one,not Catholic,or Baptist. I have never heard of them,so I'm asking. Forgive my ignorance,ok,for those who are in the know.

Hasn't he committed sins far greater than those of which I am capable? I have not unleashed a flood, killing the entire planet's population save for a handful of people who worship me unquestioningly. I have not asked a man to sacrifice his son to prove his loyalty to me. I have not tormented another man, causing his family and property to be destroyed, solely so I could prove to someone that the man would remain devoted to me.

So why should my sins be forgiven by him?!?

nearly 99.99% of pictures always show jesus as a white person and with blonde(ish) hair. surely if you look at where he came from this could not possibly be. i know some of you will say he was concieved with god, if so are you saying god is a white/ blonde also. i am in no way ridiculing what people believe, but i think we have to open our eyes just a little bit more. no offence

He did with me. Demons have been appearing quite a lot on dreams and visions, so I know they are real. Not long after one of them almost took my life, and if God had not intervened when he did I would be dead. I will not go into that, but a few months after coming close to death because of the enemy, I was thrown into a very dark pit, which as darker that anything you have ever seen in your life. It was so dark it was like you are wearing it. But guess what, God's hand came and took me from the pit and pulled me up by my hand. Guess what, it is biblical too. My sister told me in the old testament that it said somewhere that Gods'right hand pulled me out of the pit. Satan lost again, the loser. He will always lose when it comes to Jesus.I find pleading the blood of Jesus, the demons really **** themselves. So christians, have you had a similar experience. I spoke to a christians the other day and she said she knows people who have been thrown in by the enemy. God protects his own.

I am often told that the United States and Bill of Rights were founded based on the Ten Commandments.

So, I was looking at it and the only really applicable ones are 'Thou shalt not kill' and 'Thou shalt not steal'.

Adultery is grounds for divorce, but not a crime.
Lieing is only criminal in court and with respect to contracts and advertising, even so pretty limited in nature.
Honoring thy parents has gone in the complete other direction, no penalties for this what so ever, besides social ones.
Nothing about keeping the Sabbath holy. Hell, I'm at work right now.
Freedom of religion is in direct conflict with worshiping other gods/idols.
I take God's name in vain all the time, at police even, no charges have ever been pressed.

How am I to believe the two, nearly universal, ethical codes that do actually apply are somehow a 'founding principle' based on your Bible?

Genesis 9:22 Ham, the father of Canaan, saw his father's nakedness and told his two brothers outside.

Was it not an innocent act? Or does verse 24, "done to him" imply He did not simply see him naked.

Or was it because he tattled to his brothers.
