There are 73 inspired books in the Holy Bible, at least in a complete Bible. The Council of Carthage in 397 AD defined the Canon of Scripture once and for all time, and the book they produced had precisely 73 inspired books. So did every Bible on earth for the next 1,200 years. It wasn't until the 16th Century that Bibles first became incomplete, when Martin Luther decided to throw out 10 books of the inspired Word of God - 7 Old Testament books and 3 New Testament books that did not support the new doctrines he was introducing into Christianity. Fortunately his followers rebelled at the idea of throwing out the writings of the Apostles themselves, so the New Testament remained intact. The Protestant Bible therefore has 66 books, as it is missing the 7 Old Testament books Luther trashed. If He had been able to do what he fully intended to do, the Protestant Bible would have only 63 books. But the full and true Bible today still has exactly the same number of holy books it has had since it was first compiled at the end of the 4th Century - 73. And that complete Bible can still be found in the same Church that defined the Canon and compiled the book in the first place, the Holy Catholic Church.

There are 39 books in the OT and there are 27 books in the NT.
That means that there are 66 books in the whole BIble.

Good question. Many people refer to the Bible like it's just one book. But it's not. It's a collection of about 66 books.
