G-d did ordain man to do many things with respect to what G-d had entrusted him with here's the biblical reference to what you're referring to:

Genesis 1:
28And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.

G-d commanded man to do many more things, and in some cases that hasn't happened. Israel for example was to let the ground lay fallow 1 year every seven. They neglected many commands of G-d and for this reason they were sent into exile. the earth is showing signs of aging and nothing in man's powers is going to circumvent that. In fact we are facing what is called in scripture "the end times". One of the predictions related to the end times is that there would be earthquakes and pestilence and that these along with others would be only the beginning of sorrows. Your question begs the question "do you really believe that this world will go on forever if man does what he is supposed to". If so, do you not see that in everything on earth things go from order to decay and not from decay to order. G-d has appointed in time certain for a close of this age and that time is fast approaching. Believe it or not. What you need is to make sure that you're right with G-d and ready for Yeshua's return.

i dont know if the bible says that, it sounds like the bible would say that, i havent read it all, but i'm for it!

if ur not sure, you could look at it this way: would The Bible say not to take care of the world in which we live, and to not take care of God's wondrous creatures?

no one is helping with poachers or pollution though.

In Genesis it tells us that we were to have dominion over the land and all creatures within. However through sin we gave that dominion over to Satan. And then we wonder why we have the problems we have.
It is through Jesus Christ that we can reclaim that which was stolen from us through deception and lies.

As I recall it sort of does.

I haven't owned a car in 27 years. Do you get into a car and dump tons of hydrocarbons into the air each day?!

Sort of.....

Genesis 1:26-28

Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground."

So God created man in his own image,
in the image of God he created him;
male and female he created them.

God blessed them and said to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground."

The whole, "take care of it" part isn't really Biblical, but you're close
