That's excellent!

I hereby declare the prohibition on homosexuality to be out of context.
*poof*
Therefore it's not relevant anymore.

... just like when people declare that the prohibition on divorce and women speaking in church are "out of context"

This is fun!!!

Is there any other passage from the bible that people would like to dismiss as "out of context" ?

Maybe like the passages where Jesus says that slavery isn't wrong?

... that those trying to ban gay marriage from a religious perspective are trying to impose their beliefs on the rest of us, who don't share them?

I mean, if a question starts with the words "What if", I fail to see how that makes it "conversational" or whatever. It is question of a more hypothetical and/or theoretical nature, but it is still a question, right? I've noticed that most of the questions reported and then subsequentially deleted [this past two weeks] were "what if" questions. Are people THAT afraid to think outside the box or even have a little fun on this forum? Or is it just wishful thinking on my part?
...
...
... or was it the "Bible thumper" comment? Since not everyone is Catholic or Christian or Baptist, and therefore does not wish to be referred to as such, does anyone have a suggestion for an all Bible-follower-ecompassing term I could use instead? That would be more useful than reporting questions that challenge your faith, wouldn't it? I'm not trying to be conversational as these are serious questions.

I'm a new follower of christianity, and I want to ask a few questions:

I like to pick out the stuff from the bible which makes me feel superior to others, and believe that god really meant those things. You know, gays are immoral, non-christians burn in hell, women should stay silent in church, etc.

But I completely disregard the parts I find inconvenient. You know, like the parts where Jesus says that slavery is A-okay, that divorce is immoral, doing any work on the sabbath is a sin, and that I shouldn't shamelessly use my religion to just make me look good.

I know that I'm just picking & choosing whatever is convenient for me.

Is this wrong?
Or am I doing what christians are supposed to be doing?

(I'm following the example of all of the christians I know, but something doesn't seem right about this.)

please advise.

The different religions of the world evolved from mankind's 'collective unconscious' and then were influenced by actual global events and cultural influences. Every human perceived that the Divine was something that was experienced privately and explained communally...so Hinduism and Islam and Christianity and Buddhism and animist beliefs, etc. are all describing the same thing through a cultural perspective...is this 'World Religions 101'?

We are small now, but inshallah, we will be the largest sect within 30 years. We will be tolerant to the Sunni and Shiite remnants as long as they learn peace(which I'm afraid they may never learn.)

For we are all people of the book and children of the gods. Let there be no compulsion in religion

Do Missionaries, regardless of their religion (although I notice they tend to be Christians) do good work or bad? Is it forcing religion down people's throats, or is it helping along society?

...opinion, not mine." Isn't that the WHOLE POINT OF THIS!!!! That these are people's opinions...my faith is my "FAITH"...I choose to believe it, just like a person has the choice "not to believe it". Can't we move on with this kind of posturing and get on with some serious discussions.......YIKES!!!!
